Ok, I was 22 when MOM came out. I loved it. But, come on, the game was broken. It had no balance. It had no AI. Can anyone say: Highmen Paladins (I get the races over the years confused from other games - but these suckers were spell immune, on horses and kicked everythings butt)..... The AI would often have anemic amounts of cities and units on the hardest settings. Any focused strategy AT ALL with any race spelled certain victory - no

I agree with much of what you have said. A few points: 1) I don't think the campaign will receive any support - this is a sandbox game and I think 90% of us want a great random fantasy TBS-strategy-RPG hybrid. If I'm wrong - posters will contradict me. 2) Arcanum was a game that was panned as 'buggy as hell' etc. but, 10 years later I'm still playing it on a regular basis b/c patches have fixed it and it truly is an amazing game underneath. However, #2 wa
On large maps (let alone mods that allow 256x256) the out of memory not only crashes the game (usually when you try to save after a lot of turns) but it crashes my whole system for 15 minutes.... this is after long game play with lots of turns but definitely by around turn 250-300 there are large empires and lots of issues. Will stopping every hour, exiting the game and restarting solve this? Hope this will get fixed! Once this and the suicide rushes by sovereigns are fi
Stax77, thank you so much for the map generator!!! The game seems made for an epic size map with much slower contact - although the out of memory errors become problematic. But, this is wonderful! I'm making maps of 256x256 and enjoying epic games - thank you so much!
Wonderful! One question: on the large maps I often get an out of memory error - I'm assuming this will increase with a huge map? (256x256) Thanks - awesome mod - makes the game have the epic feel it should!
I see a ludicrous broken aspect of this game... and agree with the OP that it must get fixed.
I play on the large maps - and almost every one I generate is a long, winding narrow land mass that meanders all over creation. I have yet, out of 20+ games, had a map that feels like a large continent. I'd be interested in hearing what others are experiencing in this aspect? Also, are there ever oceans or is all the land always connected? I have always had the entire map connected - which makes little sense. Are there ever any islands? Share your e
If my wife dies is there any way to marry again or is that it? I see my "child" on the dynasty screen - but is there an actual unit for my new child? If so I cannot find her. Is there any way to outright buy a unit if I have the gildar? Speed produce one? Thank you! J
I have 4 cities, all level 3. I am making... wait for it.... 2.6 gildar a turn. Between a few soldiers to hold off the hordes (Epic pace, all AIs on Ridiculous, Large Map, Max # of opponents)... WOW I get to build one thing every 50 turns or so.... how FUN. If my frustration is palpable - it's b/c it IS. I WANT to like this game.... but it's basically King's Bounty right now but much, much less fun or engaging (that had amazing different graphics b
If it weren't for the MOBS I would have no economy (9 cities, two gold mines, OUCH!)
That's exactly my point greggbert - it is in dire need of revision imho.
I have also had maps where there are 2-3 shards at most. This is on a large map. Since you have no idea before playing the map - there is no way to have some general sense for resources, shards etc without exploration and playing a full game. The sliders allow you to have some control without giving away the locations.
Didn't mean for my Title line to sound overly harsh. I think my point is this: my economy is so small it just feels cheap and ludicrous to have monsters be "the" source of income..... would much rather see multiple paths through the game to a healthy economoy - not one that forces you to monster farm.
Suunman, that is exactly what it would do. That way you could make resources super rare (for all players, human and AI) or super abundant and likewise with monsters, quests, special locations. I'd actually use special locations at that point b/c my map would look like a Christmas tree b/c I'd set it to rare. As it is now, I turn off quests/locations b/c they are in such ludicrous amounts. Would love to see this future.
This is a short game in my opinion - Galciv on a Huge (Immense?) can take me a week on Twilight of the Arnor. I'm finishing a large map maxed out on AI and # of opponents in less than 4-5 hours. :( J
So, you decided to help the forums evolve by adding a Troll-post? Albeit a troll post that is pro-SD and Brad but a troll/flame war post all the same. If people actually discuss ELEMENTAL and its aspects the forum will EVOLVE. You are part of the problem OP. J
One of my favorite features of GalCiv2 and yet it is missing from this game - to its detriment in my opinion. I want to play Elemental as a war/strategy game with magic/fantasy - not as a sub-par Kings Bounty. Thoughts?
Every game I play the Empire I end up with a chronic shortage of food. I max out the Civ tree quickly to refined farming, make caravans and still am always (always!) at -5 or more food. Has anyone who has played Empire figured this out? I also feel that gold is insanely hard to come by compared to the Kingdom - although the economy is broken anyway right now by "monster farming" But I'd still like to hear thoughts on Empire playing from people who prefer them.</p
I have a large Empire (Magnar) with 10 cities all level 3... I have scores of soldiers ..... I am expanding slowly.... Well, until I hit that troll stack and make 610 gildar in one round - about 25 rounds of my normal economy. Monsters RUIN the balance and I'm playing with no quests/locations already enabled. It is ridiculous and stupid. The number of monsters, the amount of money - makes me want to tear out my hair in frustration. PLEASE fix the economy
I agree with the slavery of OTHER races. Also they could have Altars of Sacrifice. They could have Torturer Facility to keep prestige up or morale of troops increased or something. I'm sincerely hoping SD will create actual DIFFERENT races ... like Twilight of the Arnor or AoW:SM - although I don't want this if it would ruin game mechanics, AI etc. I prefer a good AI over everything. (The AI in AoW:SM suxxors in many ways) Other buildings/tech:
Hairrorist, thanks for the spell info - that helps. I've chosen Create Sovereign, and made the person a race considered Fallen but don't see the Death Book? Could you step me through the Sovereign Creation - i.e. simply tell me a race that should get it ... something seems off here, b/c I've tried all kinds of combinations and never see the option for the death book? J
Someone please help. I am not seeing my tactical attack spells on the left hand bar where they usually should be. My giants/spy etc. has them but my Sovereign does not. Also, someone said that you could select Life/Death at Sovereign Creation but I have twiddled with it for hours (serious twiddling, mind you) and STILL cannot seem to find that option - I only get enchantment. Help!
I am playing on a large map and have roughly 1/6th of the world explored. I have the max number of kingdoms and empires on the map. Unfortunately, in an otherwise overall epic and enjoyable game - the AI has now decapitated 3 empires by having their sovereign suicide rush my main army stack. Two of the empires had equal cities (8-9) to mine and they even had more troops!! If they knew how to use them they could have wreaked havoc by bypassing my main stack and attackin
I have a sprawling (8 3-4 level cities) on a large landmass and NO 'natural' beaches.... so I'm shit out of luck for a harbor. This seems incredibly nearsighted by the devs. Lower land should work or the natural areas should be more frequent. Highly annoying.
Wanted to report that when a Kingdom begins in the snow the snow covered pines become shadow trees when converted by the expanding boundary.... they become brown blurs which looks really strange.
After reading reviews, I just felt the need to state that I like the overall artistic feel of Elemental. I like how the terrain changes with the Kingdom or the Empire to either a green fertile land or an oppressed waste.... I like the rather graphic-novel style approach to monsters .... just a need to state that aesthetically I like the game quite a bit so I hope the devs will leave that untouched.
