I was replying to the post before mine re: "most 4x". The idea that units in 4x games should be able to 'walk the earth' like roving heroes and not being able to is tyranny! And yep I agree the change from sots prime is no better or worse mechanically (aside from admirals). I just happen to like it because it adds to the sense of 'realism' which is why I like about sots in the first place. In that sense I think it's an improvement.

The system used by most 4x games aka copied from Civ make no sense whatsoever. Civ gets away with it because everything else is equally absurd... so what the hell... if your armies that take a century to move, sure they can also magically live off the land. SotS is great because unlike "most 4x" it is not a civ copy. Building stuff on planets (which always feels surreal) is abstracted, logistics are elaborated. What's wrong with that? - Has it never bothered you pl

Overall I'd say it was very playable. Just remember to turn off SSAO, DoF etc as they are fps killers on anything except the very highest end graphic cards (by that I mean at least gtx670). Also expect long turn times if you play on largest galaxies. -- I like the design changes from the original SoTS. The game is about logistics rather than civ-style building and the changes emphasize this. Plus it's just very immersive to be thinking abou

Just popping back to reply. As a general rule people seem to think they have more rights than they really do. They believe they have the same legal status as companies and private individuals: hence they think they have right to privacy, freedom of speech, to intellectual property etc. Whereas the truth is, as an employee, your rights are pretty much limited to what is specifically granted by statute and nothing more.

I'm ok with multiplayer as long as it has its own forum with a large banner reading " NO BALANCE OR OTHER GAMEPLAY CHANGES WILL BE MADE TO ACCOMODATE MULTIPLAYER ".
And regardless of what someone else stated about Elantris by Brandon Sanderson, it most certainly is worth a read.
I was mainly suggesting not to judge Sanderson on the basis of that book. He gets a lot better. He can write, he is masterful at plotting... but there are things that let Elantris down: The domestics, social setting etc are 'off'. It did read like someone from Utah imagining a feudal/early modern wo

I'd avoid Elantris. The most remarkable thing about Brandon Sanderson is how he is improving from book to book. Elantris was his first and it shows (cringe making in places). - The opposite is more usually the case. Feist: read the "Magician Trilogy" and skip the rest. Beautifully written and evocative, while his later stuff seems to have been phoned in. Dan Simmons: Read only Hyperion. Highly thought provoking ideas... but when those were exhausted the aut

"The jackasses on BF or QT3 who crap on me" I really don't get why this happens. A lot of what you say I disagree with, but I can always see where you're coming from.
Haha, Giskard, do you have some kind of program that auto informs you when someone is talking about the Nexus so you can come and make bad comments about it>> hahaha. Giskard is too funny. I know Giskard for many years so some of you might not know why I am saying this.
Nah I think he just likes the kind of games we like. He's a smart guy (if a little sensitive).

I stopped reading at "timeshare company". quick tip: If all you've ever produced is a "business model" you are not a "wealth creator".

MoM (and Elemental) start with 4x and adds RPG. MoM is a more complex game than Civ. HoMM starts with tactical rpg (Kings Bounty) and adds a very simple strategic layer. - As an aside. I don't think Elemental needs grandmaster AI. These are not 'fair' games. A huge part of their appeal is the roguelike element of exploration, discovery, random events, starting position etc. The AI just needs to be good enough to be believable and present appropri

I thought "stacks of doom" meant where the Player builds one or two overpowered armies and proceeds to mop up the entire map with them. Not the AI building competitive armies (for a change) and taking on the player on equal terms.

i486 ~30 mips core2 quad ~60,000 mips Seems a bit unfair critiquing MoM re the AI given it's hard to find examples of respectable AI despite 20 years of exponential growth in computing power. Civ, HoMM, TW, AoW... are all terrible. Games like those from Paradox, and Dwarf Fortress, don't really have AI as part of their design. They are the Sims for nerds.

I'd be interested if the dlc added more wildland map events (like the golem or ice titan thing etc). But not otherwise. What I'd really like to see for dlc is more visual stuff to customize your heros and units. Loving the game now so expansions will be a no brainer (day one purchase) for me.

I agree the setting for this game is not accessible (and sorry Brad but you are not a writer). In fact FE rubbed me the wrong way to the extent that I uninstalled. But after refreshing my memory about MoM and SM (which have sat unclicked on my desktop for years)... I was inspired to reinstall and take a second look and my opinion has completely reversed. This game is amazing. What made MoM so much fun to play was never really being lord/lady darkness in the tower of doom with

If you were serious about your religion you would have your characters behave completely immorally. God doesn't exist (or make himself known) in these fantasy worlds so everyone would be utterly corrupt; with no prophet and no bible or quran there is no way to know right from wrong. In fact you'd be blaspheming by behaving according to law in this game. Complaining about it means you are surely bound for hell.

But being serious and pretending the OP isn't a troll. In the world of elemental there is no covenant and no chosen people or prophet; noone is saved and noone is damned. Hence there is no injunction to avoid eating animals with certain shaped feet.
