I'd like to add something. Even if you have a "bad" starting position, look for other aliens who are near you and are equally in a "bad" position. I've only played on painful, but the AI is ill-equipped to deal with a determined rush for his homeworld. As soon as you can build a tiny fighter with an engine and a gun, send a squad of 6 of them to control territory and take the homeworld. Homeworlds are much more powerful then normal planets, and often the AI will already hav

1- Only the planet they're on. 2- I believe that your overall influence affects every planet (hold mouse over number of influence in planet display. there's like half of influence who comes from "civilization influence") That said, it's more efficient to build your embassies on your border planets. I feel like a tile used as an embassy pn a faraway planet is research or manufacturing you're not having :/. 3- BC allocated. But there's talk of changing that.

It's possible to 'rush' the AI. Once I was playing on painful, and my starting position was horrible, so I dumped all my money in research and took the planets from the drengin. My ship was mostly a gun ductaped to an engine though...

Defense is way more powerful then offense, but it has ifs, which are : 1) If you have more then half the defense then your enemy has weapons. 2) If they're optimised 3) If you're not ridiculously poor It's only with defenses that the average craft fights enough battles to go up insanely in levels. I had a squadron of medium ships at level 104 once! they had around 120 hp (instead of 12) . (I play at painful) That means that those ships will probably never die

I've never lost a war. Unless giving alot of money to your enemy to make him go away counts as losing the war. But then again, I've never played beyond gifted. I'm sure at genius the computer would throttle me.

According to the manual, Intelligent is when the AI is as it's optimum, genis is intelligent + 25% economy and incredible is intelligent + 100% economy. What about Gifted? It's between intelligent and Genius, what bonus does it have?

I actually did sell older ships once I was able to build some of my better designs, until one time after I saved a game and decided to go 12,000bc into debt upgrading my corvettes, and going on a rampage. Right, so first turn my debt was 12,119bc or something. The turn after it was only 2,000. Three or four turns after that my economy was recovering and I was ab

It would also be good to have a "sleep" mode that will not wake at all. Guard mode. Hit G. 1. I am constantly fighting the approval/tax problem. In fact it often pisses me off to the point where I don't want to

Can I know how you play? Even with 10 trade routes and 5-6 economic starbases, my trade income is never more then a third of my tax income. Sure, it allows me to have a positive budget running at 100% industrial capacity and that's just fine and dandy, but you make it sound as if trade lets you have hundred thousands bc. How do you do it?

If it were cheaper to upgrade it would create gameplay problems. Think of it this way, if you get a good combo advantage of weapon/defense and win a battle against the AI, with cheap upgrades the next turn you could be facing an entire fleet of AI ships configured just to right to beat your winning design. Not so. Remember two thin

I for one don't. It seems like the moral dilemmas stop happening once you 'decide' your alignment. I liked it better the way it was in Galciv 1, where your choices directly affected your alignment. Choosing it seems so gamey. In fact, all you have to do is save 10 000 bc, take all those nifty +46% planet quality and +35% research bonuses that pop up, and choose to be good regardless. Or neutral, because it has more pros to it imo. That, and the evil weapons are g
