There is a buzz today about how much more powerful melee heroes are very early in the game
1. Today? its been like that since day 1 of WoM 2. What do you mean early game, melee heroes / sov rule from beginning to end.
I don't like out of combat weight limits either. What's so unbelievable about a champion buying a little cart or something and go trading? Maybe give health potions a 1 turn cooldown instead. That's much more believable. You can only drink so much medicine.
Now that is an idea I can get behind.
I agree with the OPs criticisms but not his plan of improvement. (except the 1 hit 1 kill plan, that is good idea) I think the first step is to take the sovereign off the battlefield. Age of wonders had the right idea about how to do that.. the sovereign should not gain XP from combat, the sovereign should be relatively weak in melee, and the sovereign should be able to cast into combats within their domain (which extends away from cities / structures, etc) This works out
This is stupid. Its the magic amazing super technology of a pack beast... there is no justification for out of combat weight limits. Especially for potions which are supposedly very small and light.
How do you justify such crippling injuries with magic healing? I would only see it as acceptable if it could be "cured" by spending some turns in a city (maybe require a magic technology and a city structure)
Agreed with OP. Caravans shouldn't be a unit that you control, ever. Rather you build one from an appropriate UI and when its done it starts going between the two cities. I suggest also having it grow. Where it starts with one caravan and as it makes money it expands to more caravans (up to a max value) between those specific cities. And have the caravans attacked by monsters or bandits which decreases caravan count between those cities (may potentially annihilate all
Agreed. It should simply be impossible to end your turn without a selected research. Or maybe what sweatyboatman said.
Honestly its fine as is. 25 mana is a lot for early game. And in late game the imbued champion doesn't really help since they only get a few crappy low level spells and not your good high end spells.
I just feel that the current mana system just encourages sitting around on your arse
If you are sitting on your arse then how do you expect to gain more mana? Just conquer with limited mana amounts (called "making due") and as you conquer you acquire new sources of mana.
Is this version of the game the only beta or will there be updates? How do we get the updates, does this version update itself or do we need to use impulse, or keep re-downloading and re-installing?
So far it is not showing up on impulse. So I think we are gonna have to manually redownload
Overall the game is much slicker then WoM. I am liking it. While it crashes less it still crashes. Reloading causes out of memory crashes so if I want to reload I exit the game, run it again, and then load. Haven't crashed since I started that policy. No reason for it to even happen though what with my massive 8GB of ram and x64 windows. Also, keyboard/mouse input should be disabled while loading... it causes weird issues. Obviously I don't press anything while
I just tried to create a character in v1.4 and I can't figure out what most things actually do. I went to the manual and it said "version 1.1" What we should have is: 1. Everything can be right clicked for detailed info. 2. Hovering tooltips / inline choices with basic info. It doesn't need to look different, I am fine with the current look of WoM... It just needs to have tooltips and right click infos.

I have it somewhere around 50 most of the time which makes it pretty easy to see if land has been reclaimed, without making it too green. Hope this is what you're looking for...
I turned it up to 100 and it definitely helps... The default should definitely be 100 on the cloth map color.

Windowed mode with window decorations and resizing + minimizing + closing intact, please.
You are not supposed to move or resize it. it is the same size as your desktop, covering it entirely. Borderless window mode (See WOW for another example) look exactly like full screen; the differences are in how it works
I think a much better idea is: Name: Egalitarian Effect: Half the population cost of recruiting soldiers Cost: X point (subject to balancing). Name: Patriarchal Effect: No gameplay effect; All soldiers are male Cost: Free Name: Matriarchal Effect: No gameplay effect; All soldiers are female Cost: Free
@OP: you are off by a few years. Last time it was only PC games was years ago... In 2011 it is "Games no longer work on release". The Xbox360, PS3, and the Wii all have internet update capability, allowing developers to release unfinished games that don't work and patch them later (if ever). This is something I complained about for a long long time. That being said, some companies are listening, even some of the big players like blizzard now take their time to finish the
basically amounts to "if I lose, you can have my stuff" - the dynasty system still doesn't really encourage two kingdoms/empires to work together while they're both actually playing (on the contrary, if you're married into a sovereign's family, you'll want him to lose so you can win his kingdom - you might even try to help the process along..), again I hope more dynasty improvements are to come.
So... just like monarchy in real life
so let me see if I get it right... 1. play kingdom or empire, they get more spellbooks. 2. If you don't select spellbooks, they will be near impossible to acquire for the majority of the game, but you get them all at the end?
9 out of 10 new games don't work at launch.
Use the universal answer... Q: Should I buy game X? A: Play the demo and decide for yourself, only YOU !THE CHOSEN ONE! can tell if you like a game or not!
Since magic is a finite and limited resource I don't know why they don't just go completely over the top with the spells. You could allow a sovereign to be able to wipe out an entire army with magic; it's not like MoM where you can hurl spells into every battle, until you get a dynasty started up you only have a single unit capable of casting spells. Of course, the AI would need to be taught to try attacking on multiple fronts rather than run lem
