I've had the same issue. Running as an administrator once as was suggested above fixed the problem when I then created a new game or started the scenario over. However, the forest graphics remained missing if I loaded a saved game or the play through of the scenario I had started.

I don't know what the exact problem is getting it to run on your laptop, however by installing the latest Nvidia Beta drivers I was able to get it to run on my laptop when it wouldn't with the latest released drivers. Hope this helps.
Playing on my old desktop about every 10-15 mins the game goes completely black. The music continues to play and the cursor stays as the sword. No one event seems to trigger it. It happened on end turn, end of battle and clicking to move. The task manager still says that the game is running and I have to force quit to exit. Early on in the game I got a lost library and the spillover from what I was researching was enough to complete one of the first level techs in one turn. However the text for all of the remaining level 1 techs said completed and listed no time. Not sure if this is working as designed, but its a bit confusing. I have a save that consistently produces the bug. I attack the ogre and the Bloody Clearing disappears after the tactical battle leaving an empty square. Edit: This is working correctly. Only the production bonus from the workshop is being applied to the city. I tested deleting both improvements to determine this. The debug file is from save D. The floating health bar doesn't decrease for the damage caused by the second strike from Double Strike. The damage is being applied to the target. Graphics are missing from city level up pop-up but appear in the city build queue.
I installed the latest beta drivers (290.53) and it will run off of the graphics card now. Hopefully this solves the problem for you.
Same thing happened to me randomly once when I loaded a saved game. Quitting and reloading the save fixed the problem.

When i tried to load the Hiergamenon, the screen below is all that loaded. Also, it was unresponsive when I tried switching to another entry in the list. Exiting to the main menu and starting a new game did not correct the problem. Overall the game is running faster and I haven't had any saving related crashes. I had an OOM crash as I was randomly scrolling around the cloth map, after playing for a few hours.
