Yes, just like planets, and "not really". However, the effect on your influence on another empire's planets will be enhanced the closer they are to that empire's planets. They can also be placed inside another empire's zone of influence (if they haven't taken some action to preclude your doing so), but some consequences COULD occur (such as war or other dire reactions by that empire).

I keep looking at this thread and wondering about it. If you look on the GC3 forums you might, if you go back far enough, find that some people had trouble with the minimum required RAM there as well (4GB RAM). Some people said to turn off the swap file, but that caused worse problems. As I look at the 2GB minimum RAM requirement for SK and the amount of RAM that gets allocated when I boot my PC (2.7 GB on Win8.1 with 64 bit addressing), I am further puzzled. Granted, a

After launching colony ships or transports you can send them to a planet, orbit the planet (which unloads the ship) then eject the ship from orbit and get a new "load ship" window. This helps when the shipyard doesn't have a sponsor planet close enough with too low a population to load the ship when it is launched.

100,000 MB sounds a bit excessive. Are you playing more than one game at a time? You mentioned earlier that you are using a laptop. Do you have a CPU temperature monitor running? Is it possible the temperature is running up to the point where the CPU automatically throttles down the clock speed until the CPU cools some?

Has anyone figured out how to use the forms of government listed in the tech tree? I see several parties mentioned along with the forms "Galactic Republic", "Interstellar Democracy", and "Star Federation". This seems to reflect back to GC2 which had these forms of government, but I can't find any way to activate any of these.

You may wish to take a more serious look at the OS's page file settings ("virtual memory" settings). I think the default settings are inappropriate for 64 bit games, and that Microsoft has some catchup to do since 64 bit games are quite new. As a start, I suggest that the "virtual memory" setting values be set to 1*RAM for the initial swap file size and at least 3*RAM for the maximum size. With the largest map sizes, you may find that these settings need to be enlar

When attempting to select and set a "go to" destination on second and subsequent ships after starting the game the selection of the "rally point" filter fails unless you select "planets" or "starbases" first. It fails only on the first attempt to select a filter. Once it is successfully shifted off of "all" any filter can be successfully selected.

In this snapshot you can see I have selected a ship I designed and named "Analizer M3a in a previous game. I have not yet researched the tech that would allow me to design or build this ship and yet it is showing up on the list. It requires some miniaturization before enough hull space will be available (see the red bar near the bottom of the design

I remember being a bit disappointed with Sid Meier's initial release of Civilization V, but the DLCs have fleshed it out nicely. My guess is that Brad planed to follow the same path with GC3. And don't forget, GC3 is a complete re-write in 64 bit addressing mode, enabling it to expand exponentially with how much data it could handle over what GC2 could work with. GC2 (and Civ V) are about at the end of what can be done in 32 bit addressing code.

I don't know how to do this, but I know where I would look for examples: there are files specifically for the campaign that comes with the game. If you peruse those files, perhaps this will help.

If you are getting to turn 800 it sounds like you are playing one of the larger galaxy map sizes. If so, there are two possibilities I can think of: 1) it is crashing, but is just taking so long producing a dump file that it just appears hung. There is an immense amount of debug information that needs to be captured to allow the devs diagnose crashes on the much larger maps. 2) it is hung. The OS's "task manager" can be used to create a dump that the devs can use to diagno

When playing any of the larger galaxy sizes I find it imperative to play a faction that has the Patriotic ability. IMO the LEP is overwhelming on larger maps. The Patriotic attribute eliminates the LEP entirely , but this feels overwhelming as well. Large empires always should have some exposure to graft and/or corruption, but to this extreme?

Sorts! Lots and lots of sorts for all lists that can grow to over 10 items, such as planet lists, ship lists, ship lists in shipyards, ship lists in ship designer, Star base lists, Rally points, etc. Filters for the planet list on the main map: Owned by player, discovered but not owned, discovered and owned by other players (note: if this could be filtered by each faction, it would be nice. If not, it would be nice to have it sortable by faction name as well as li
