The backstory of the game is that the world is recovering from near destruction. You are trying to rebuild your civ from nothing. And since you (your character) think that your way is the right way (and because of the many victory conditions there are many ways) you need to do it before your opponents do. Finding the "right" balance for a city or tech or spells is totally up to you. Try something. If you lose, try something diff
I want governor champions for many reasons. They might indeed help a bit with the dissonance between 'my character' the sovereign and the player's unexplained semi-omniscience. Requiring that governors be imbued champions and having the imbuing process establish a psychic link could smooth out that wrinkle. So could some sort of scrying magic/abilities. Very early on, I'd really hoped to see the capital have some distinctiv
OK. I know this makes no sense at all from a gameplay standpoint and I can't think of a way to mitigate the way I feel about it . . but playing the role of the sovereign (as an individual character walking around the map) and the all-knowing sovereign that sees what every city is doing at a moments notice. I get that *I* am also the puppet master of every character& and every city but the mix of the two blows my mind sometimes. Having governors in the cities might mitigate t
You know what I'd like? I'd like to have the option to hide the tech tree paths. Maybe have a lot more randomness in tech. What if you could set a research path and you'd head down that path, making advances, but might get some related tech once in a while? Picking what to focus on makes sense . . picking a tech does not. In related news . . a civ-wide research pool makes little sense. Unless there is a means of communicating (like a caravan) betw
I happen to like the RPG aspects of strategy games. I enjoy replaying again and again as different characters. I like "being" the evil guy or the good guy or the merchant or what-have-you. I also liked being somewhat of a griefer back in the day playing D&D. I was the guy that did the unexpected to see how the DM would handle it. I don't expect Elemental to be able to be *that* RPG or handle any crazy thing I throw at it. .. but I would like
When it comes to realism vs. gameplay, balance and fun, with all due respect, realism should lose.
Agreed. If possible though, keeping it arguably "real" is better. I had a dream the other day that I incorporated a refugee camp into my biggest city and a plague broke out. Fun? Maybe. Realistic? Likely. :) {Sad that I dreamt of Elemental? Yeppers. ;))
We went back and forth on that one (I fought for the 'have to be in a city' system), but at the end of the day it was considerably less 'fun' to slog your way back to a city to have to visit the merchant. Perhaps I can slide a option in for players like us More RPG-y
An option would be nice. Also nice would be roaming markets with a lesser selection at a higher costs. Put them on a circuit&n
I look forward to when users can comment on and rate mods.
Quoting kryo, reply 3You can click through the "leads to" and "requires" options in the in-game hiergamenon to browse the tree. Okay, that's fine then. I, and the OP had no idea it existed, though. So maybe it needs to be a little more visible/accessible than it currently is.
To each their own. I'd rather not know (and I look forward to mods so I won't) to build th immersion factor. {An
Shopping anywhere is a nice to have . . but the fact that I can find a merchant anywhere in my territory breaks immersion for me. :( I tried to argue with myself that maybe the merchants have runners . . but no one has movement points like that. :)
It really is amazing how easy much of Elemental can be read an modified by us, the players. Between the XML for text and elements, the workshop, and the DXpacks for the graphics, Elemental really could be a totally new game (for the modder with enough time). [I can't even imagine the failure that could occur with regex and global replacing of text strings. - - but it might be fun to try anyway.]
even fantasy worlds need to be internally consistent in order for players to be able to immerse themselves in them.
Like having caps on how big your city is or how many of a type of building or limiting the number of caravans or . . . or . . or . . ;)
the overall length is 99 turns. But I would like to know where the remaining turns of an existing one are to be seen ?
No. :(
Or is there another way to attack that nation other than waiting for the pact to expire ?
I think I recall a bug where if you have underage children you can propose a marriage and when they reject, declare war. I know of no other way.
I think it's 99 turns. I'd rather there was a slider so I could pick how long I wanted it to be.
Hmmm . . . only 288 dxpacks to replace for a compete interface mod. Sorting the dxpacks by date is interesting to see the order things were built (or updated).
I've seen more than a few posts something like "I never heard of these guys before. How cool was that?!? I wish they were still open. I'd buy a ton of games from them." Current users couldn't get to their games for a few days. They'll be back. I'd call that a cheap marketing win.
A new interface is possible and not super complicated. DesktopX builder could be the modder's bestest friend: <img src="http://content.screencast.com/users/zubaz/folders/Jing/media/f3b95dba-6452-4d56-a341-f300acb51613/2010-09-22_134
Meh. http://www.gog.com/ First of all we would like to apologize everyone who felt deceived or harmed in any way by us closing down GOG.com without any warning and without giving access to your games. We apologize for that from the bottom of our hearts! Now it's time we put an end to all the speculations once and for all. It’s true that we decided that we couldn't keep GOG.com the way it was… so w

Two weeks ago we announced the start of our 2010 fantasy art competition. This year's theme: create erotic renditions of classic First Edition AD&D Monster Manual critters. Bonus points were awarded for humor and capturing the style of classic D&D artwork. We received more than 125 entries from almost 100 different people and the quality level this year was really amazin
