To be honest i dont like the city building in the latest build. Before you could specialize cities and you really needed those gardens and houses. I liked it, because you need to make a decission. With the latest build you take that away. You can just build everything and i have so much free space i doubt the new techs add enough stuff to make me wish for more free tiles. Also the new Food/Housing/Citygrow ratio is totally out of balance. If you find only one farming tile you

The best unit/combat design i ever saw was the one of Kohan. It was the best of all worlds and fun to tinker with different combinations of units in each stack. hm.... *heads of to GOG, looking for Kohan*

There is also a bug (that i cant reproduce) which ends the game if you sovereign is killed near one of your cities. Not your last one, just anyone. I am still trying to reproduce it. Cant even do it with save games.

If they don't prepare for it then I don't see why not. Much like rushing in another game. If your sovereign sits on their butt in a city all game and you don't train any adventurers up or build some really powerful defenders, then you will lose to that strategy. If you counter their strategy though with s

The other day I started a game with a inventor hero and a 4-pack of adventurers by me. I recruited them all but didn't have enough $ left for a city (I'm not sure the game is getting the $ right on recruiting groups, I'm going to check next time I see one). I will buy Civ5 for two reasons: 1) They made Civ4, which earns them a one buy sight unseen. For the same reason i will buy the next Ironclad (SoaSE)game (if it is something that remotely interests me). 2) Grand Strategy games a rare in this day and age and if not enough people buy them, we might lose (sp?) them completly. Just IMHO and YMMV, of course.

I played too many hours this weekend, but had nothing else to do anyway. I had both Civics and Warfare reseached to lvl 30+ and found so many speed potions, my sovereign was zipping around the map with move 13, after which even more speed potions didnt add anything more. And i dare say it was fun. Now i am going to punch myself for awhile to even out my karma ... [e digicons]:banhammer:[/e]

I think most of the complaints about the current system are from people who don't really understand the food system or aren't researching the housing upgrades. You only need like 10-12 villas to max a city right now, and gardens are optional if you just go out and look for food resources (one bee hive with a granary is 30
Why would you get a caviar green? They are slower than the Caviar black and for a game system, you want a large cache and high speed. You're not trying to minimize power consumption. Edit: Oh, nevermind. Too late. At least you're being nice to the environment. I hate the way they market those drives, right alongside the much faster caviar black.
I thought the exact same, mybe he can send them back

Is your imagination so far diminished that you need your fantasy games to have ultra realistic river formations.
... Lake Gorba is really weird however, or then the map is really unintuitive. The river through the imperial spine is clearly continuous, so it would indicate that Gorba indeed has two rivers flowing into the ocean. This would require *extremely* rare and unstable circumstances. The river would have to fill up at the exact same rate as it empties from both rivers to maintain the balance. Otherwise one of the rivers would

Nice to get some coverage, but i found the preview a bit lacking (on all fronts). It somehow read as if the reviewer wasn't very interested in the game at all. *shrug* But maybe i got it all wrong [e digicons]

@Wintersong: It is just an idea that covers nearly all sides of the argument, i think. Also "Sovereign Death = Game Over" is more of a story reason i guess, then hard to implement. You are the sovereign, it is your story. If you die, it is game over, as i understand the design. Another suggesstion: Bind things like essence recovery to magic research and include spells like Empower Life (City enchantment, Cost X Essence): Life spread from this city is i

If you want to implement it, N could be: N = MAX(CHA Sovereign;CHA Heroes in battle) + Training* + Special Boni (like Warlordtrait or such) *Training: Green 1; Veteran 2; Elite 4 a.s.o. Randomness vs. Richness I like irongamers idea. Or amke a set of special maps and include them into the random generator, so that there is maybe a 10% chance to play on a special map.

Caravans go along that route. No road yet. As turns go by (and the caravan successfully reach the other city and come back), the road is automatically built. Techs can improve these kind of roads once they are done.
I find that the best of ideas. Maybe, if you wan
