Yup, you're hallucinating. Guardsmen and Kasrkin haven't ever been able to build missile launchers. You might be thinking about space marine tactical squads.

I agree that Distant Worlds is a much better implementation of automation than MOO3. (You make a number of good points for this.) However, the problem for me wasn’t that MOO3 promised to play itself but couldn’t, but that it promised at all. Distant Worlds makes that same promise, which is what I meant when I wrote that it ‘plays itself’. Since there’s no disputing taste, we’ll just have to disagree about whether that promise is a good one. &n
Played it today. Was really disappointed. The game suffers from Master of Orion 3 syndrome. It practically plays itself. I did like the UI design though. It's a bit cumbersome because the picking doesn't work very well, but the right click/context menus are great.
Players can build Financiers (until we have a better name, feel free to suggest a better one) who enhance the city’s money making.
How about something evil, like 'slave pits' (if it's a building) or 'slavers' (if it's a unit)?
It is not racist to be pro British.
It is when the idea of 'British' is taken to be synonymous with 'white'. It's telling that its competitors (i.e. UKIP) feel the need to distinguish themselves as 'non-racist' conservative parties.
What engine are you using?
I'm really looking forward to this. Didn't know what to think about the macro-mechanics before trying the beta. Much more satisfied after playing it. I'm not dedicated enough (or smart enough) to play competitively with any sort of success, but I'll still enjoy it.
I agree with the spirit of your post -- Stardock shouldn't try to compete with other developers that farm out their cutscenes because the expense wouldn't justify the benefit -- but I don't think it's really a fair comparison. The cutscenes serve different purposes and have different requirements. And it's not as though the AC endgame cutscenes were any less trite, just less well funded. To be honest, I found the AC cutscenes more frustrating than anything.
It would be interesting to know why those polled believe that. I personally prefer to create my own race not because I'm interested in role playing, but because it allows me to play the game I want to play it. (And usually gives me some advantage). I'd actually prefer much more distinctive factions. (Really, factions a la MoM, but that's not on the cards.)

Though also looking for the anwser to the question 2.6 or 3.1 for the python version?
I remember the developers said that it wasn't going to use 3.x. Shouldn't make much of a difference, though.
Master of Orion 2 is a good shout. This is my favorite: BattleZone
Second 'gold'. It should be abstract enough that it can apply to any game. Unless this is for the novel.
Anyone know if the team was let go after the release as rumored?
I suppose the fact that Leviathan is a basic item on a serious social contract theory reading list could explain why someone would think it "proto-liberal." But when I read it three times in three years, I was undergoing a conversion from philosophical anarchism to representative democracy, so the power dynamics were the most important themes for me. That, and I never did take to Rousseau for some reason.
I'm confused then. I thought the poster you were recommending him
Have you really never read even the first half of Leviathan? Hobbes really seems like your sort of guy in many respects, being a miserable sod with some verbal flair and a tendency to theorize. Plus there's all that fun pre-dictionary-era spelling when he goes on about the "warre of all against all" and whatnot.
I don't really follow you here either. I'm all for interpretations of Hobbes as a proto-liberal exponent of limited government, but surely he's not more of a li
Most people (as in a plurality of citizens of the United States) do not want a system that is "more socialist." Politicians avoid the word "socialism" unless they are using it to tarnish an opponent. Americans respond negatively to the word.
Overemphasis on terms can be misleading. The majority of Americans support 'international cooperation' but not 'multilateralism'.
Do you rember Dark Reign?
Dark Reign was fantastic! :-p But I agree with the sentiment that there's only one SC2, and it isn't made by Gas Powered Games. I played Supreme Commander and didn't care for it. Tried the Supreme Commander 2 demo and also disliked it. But I thought that there were some improvements. The new tech system is much better than the old, all-or-nothing tier system, and the game length is shorter.
Heroes.
