So, umm, what if the FBI is using monkeys to spy on us? There, I brought it back on topic!
Perhaps they're just not judgmental about feces. [e digicons][/e] Edit: Neither are monkeys! The circle is complete...
I guess it depends a lot on one's definition of morality, which is where these discussions often derail. But as an example, monkeys will show empathy and compassion to each other, even if they weren't raised in part of the "monkey community" (couldn't resist using that phrase). They're just naturally inclined that way, as are we. They're also naturally inclined to band together and then beat the **** out of their monkey neighbours on occasion, as are we.<
There's plenty of scientific evidence to the contrary.
Well, it's not so simple as "are we born with these, or aren't we?" Things like acceptance, morality, decency, and yes, racism too, are indeed things we're born with, at least to some degree. Human beings are social animals, and for a social animal to be successful as a species, it must have significantly different behavioural patterns than a non-social animal. Compare a lion (social) versus a leopard (non-social), or a wolf (social) versus a bear (non-social).
Unequal application of justice based upon race, class, etc. is not a new thing.
I'm not familiar with the specifics of US hate crime laws, but it's my understanding that they don't only apply only to specific groups. Killing a white person because they're white, a man because he's a man, a heterosexual person because they're heterosexual, all also constitute hate crimes, I believe. There
Agreed. I chose Android for one simple reason - a few years from now I will likely want to upgrade my phone without switching ecosystems. At that time, I will likely have a choice between the 2-3 models Apple is offering and the dozens that Android-based manufacturers are offering. What if I don't like the 2-3 iPhone models?
No victory claim here, I'm not even taking part in that particular discussion.
Yep, that's a Godwin. THREAD CLOSED! [e digicons][/e]
Companies are inanimate objects, it's people who accomplish things. Their massive contribution to bringing modern computing to the average person's home was engineered by Steve Wozniak (no longer an active employee at Apple) and made successful by Steve Jobs (deceased) in the distant past. I'm not much of an Apple hater, but I dislike this nostalgia of fawning over the Apple of today because of what the company did 35 years ago. It was an entirely different colle
People rolling chars of the opposite sex, not stalking.
Okay, that's not what I was implying in the original comment. I have no problem with that.
So that's what "bush tucker" actually is!
Well, the exact phrase I used was " creepy borderline stalkers." I never referred to men playing female characters as creepy, nor did I refer to hitting on people online as creepy. Stalking is more than just asking someone for (cyber)sex. If that's all it took to be considered a stalker, then bars would be full of stalkers!
Why is that creepy? About 10-20% of players do this.
You're asking me why stalking is creepy? Uhhhh....
Oh, I absolutely believe you. I have a male friend who decided, on a whim, to play a female character in Everquest back when it first came out. The number of creepy borderline stalkers who came out of the woodwork was eye-opening. Glad to hear nothing worse happened with your incident!
And yeah, good question. So why do Stardock forums allow anonymity?
I think the ability to post anonymously is an important one. For every misanthrope using anonymity to spew venom, somewhere there's someone living under an oppressive government who's relying on anonymity to be able to speak out against it. And I'm not referring to blatantly political forums either, what seems like an innocuous comment to us on a gaming forum could result in trouble for the poster in many countries. Not everyone is as lucky as us to live in fre
Oh, and before I go, I need to mention the pron peddlers who use Apple hardware/software to produce the most interesting cinematography. They are bastards as well.... cos I gotta convert the format before I can watch it on my Windows machine. It's just not fechen right!
[e digicons][/e]
Wow, you people never really tire of this thread, do you?

Bought it today after hearing great things all over the place about it. Really looking forward to giving it a try.
Quarter to Three just listed it as #6 of their Best Games of 2014 (So Far): Even though Firaxis cannily updated X-Com with XCOM’s modernized boardgamish approach , the original X-Com still has its appeal for those of us hardcore enough to suffer the bankruptcy, sudden deaths, loss, and unfolding global apocalypse of an actual alien invasion inste
Quoting Wintercross, reply 6 Hopefully one day I'll get my wish of an updated Xcom game that holds more true to the originals gameplay style and options. Have you tried Xenonauts ? It came out of early access very recently (last month or so). It is highly praised by players who felt Firaxis game was not true enough to the original. I have yet to try it myself...
I also really wante
