Oh well. Maybe the Pre-Ordering window won't be too long in opening ...
They've recently been accepted for distribution of the public beta on Steam, and are hinting that access for pre-orders is getting close. Here's hoping...

Yeah, that feature of StarDrive initially turned me off too, but then I read a preview at Space Sector that not only raved about the latest alpha build, but also made it clear that this particular feature is just a sideshow to what is otherwise shaping up to be a remarkable 4X game. I mean, Distant Worlds essentially has that feature too, but it doesn't detract from what is otherwise a brilliant 4X grand strategy game. It seems like the StarDrive developer mentioned it in th

I live in NYC... what's a car? Is that one of those yellow things that smells really bad inside?
It all depends on what the job market for bakers is. Yes, the overall unemployment rate is high, but it varies a lot by profession. Perhaps it's easy for bakers to find new jobs, in which case the bakers are right to hold their ground. If your profession is in high demand, losing your job is only a brief annoyance, and much preferable to accepting compensation below industry norms.
And no love for Lo Pan?!
Freedom, eternal vigiliance, yadda yadda yadda. ;)

You're thinking of No Escape. No Way Out was Kevin Costner.
Matrix Reloaded.
Well, I meant more like first of its kind and no serious flaws. And yeah, I don't think anyone should be playing Civ 1 these days, it's been outdone repeatedly by its own sequels.
Everyone has one, but no one wants to hear it.
I heard it as "Everyone has one, and they all stink." but that works too. :) And yeah, my example games are just off the top of my head, I didn't put much thought into them.
There are two ways that a game becomes a classic It's a near perfect version of an existing game formula. It takes an existing formula and refines it obsessively to the point of near perfection. Near perfection is a requirement for these games to become classics. It comes completely out of left field and does things in ways that no one has ever done before, or offers an experience that no one has offered before. These games
This thread made me hungry.

This is a good example for illustrating the different tastes people have in games.
By the 12th or so tactical battle it had became a chore to play because you just did the same thing over and over.
I loved every tactical battle I played in XCOM, it was the strategic portion of the game that killed it for me. I absolutely hate it. It ended up being a gamebreaker for me.
I mean I admit the bomb defusal and the citizen escorts added a nic
Okay kids, some reality checks: Reviews are subjective by their very definition. Numerical scores for reviews are arbitrary, but reviewers have to give them or else they don't get listed on Metacritic and don't get more page hits. Reading a review in its entirety is the only way to make use of it. Decide if the criticisms are about things you care about or not. If you want relatively straightforward tactical battles, and the review critic
The new expansion lets you castrate people. Doesn't that alone sell you on the game? [e digicons][/e]
I'll admit it, I'll happily buy any expansion to CK2 that Paradox cares to produce, at any price they ask. Oops, did I say that out loud? I hope they aren't reading this forum, or else I'll be helpless to buy $70 DLC that lets me name my character's pets. I'm absolutely in love with the game. I think I'll arrange a betrothal to it. I hear it has HUGE... tracts of land!
FYI, it seems as though SHIVs are very buggy. I'm on my second one, but the game won't let me include it on my team. It just gives the 'invalid selection' noise when I click on it, and the page for it in View Soldiers doesn't have a 3D model and the only available button is Dismantle. There are lots of other reports of this bug around, so hopefully it gets fixed soon. So if you're running your budget right on the edge, you may want to avoid in
Yes, the wireframe building issue is driving me nuts. I want to know where the cover is, but it's really difficult if the building is in wireframe mode. I have to bump the camera view up a level for it to pop back to non-wireframe.
I am very interested in xenonauts except I haven't seen any mention of whether you unlock futuristic technology or if you use the modern day tech for the whole game.
Yep. The game takes place in the 1970s so you start with only that level of technology, but you can unlock futuristic things like laser rifles, body armour, etc.
For those who aren't aware of it, there's also Xenonauts. http://www.xenonauts.com/ It's somewhat more a spiritual successor to X-Com in that it retains most of the features of the original, while also expanding on a few features here and there (air combat is more interactive, you can spend extra Time Units to have a more accurate shot, etc.). It's also an indie game, which means it's not going to have the produ
It's definitely a good game.
