Um, last I checked starbases gave boosts if you have one point in any category OF a set -- 1 attack or 1 defense gives full attack or full defense bonuses, in all three categories.

My thought? Bugtesting and fixing is a LOT harder than anyone who hasn't tried to do it thinks. Go take a programming course and you'll begin to get the ideas -- a simple program can take literally DAYS to debug if you don't get outside input (the good old fasioned "see what I thought I had and not was actually there") and its difficult to get outside input on a game which can easily span millions of lines of code.

I have a savegame where I can't build a starport on Akilians, and I can't figure out why... I think there was one there once that got knocked down (don't remember why) and caused a little confusion (no starport instead of build ship, but I could -- and did, silly me -- spend money to buy the ship, money got spent to finish the half-built ship and the money was paid, no ship arrived)... but anyway, I can't build a ship there *now*. Want a copy of the save?

Thats odd... I've tried varients on the "send the survery ship out into the black and autoexplore", and I usually get the "can't see" error message -- or it went after only the ones I could see. Maybe I did it wrong or something (since I've rarely sent it straight out as my only explorer).

If it does housecleaning on a save/reload, why do all my obsolete / deleted ship designs keep coming back? (Not to mention being able to construct two different varieties of thunderfury, one of which I'm keeping deleted... wierd)

Its getting a little irritating, no common denominator. About half the time I get the standard CTD message (debug, send error report, and don't send) and the game closes... the other half, I get the error message, wait a bit, and the game comes back to the foreground and I can save and exit just fine. Then reload the savegame and take off just fine... until the next CTD. Want my debug.err file? edit: and my DXDiag is available as well, if you want it. I'm a little fuzzy on the exact

If you obsolete a ship design, its SUPPOSED to disappear from teh build list. As far as having two ships of the same name available to build... I think the dev's have already stated that saving "over" a ship name like that is, currently, a no-no for some reason.

As far as the unfleeted fighters go, its always seemed (to me) that the AI is using those early on in a war to try and raid my trade routes, contructors, and what not to gain XP -- usually by the time *I* get to smack them down (I play a research game, so I'm not very good on the tech curve) they're a pretty major threat, and often fleeted.

... By "I have acopy of the save" I kinda meant I wasn't going to touch that save again untill I heard from you guys. Unfortunatly, it seems that I can't find the savegame folder in GalCiv2... . Also, since I kept playing this morning from the autosave, the autosaves are kinda... long lost. Edit: Ok, found the savegame folder (thanks #galciv!), and apparently the problem. When the error occured, it apparently deleted both of the save game names I

No offence, Mat, but you're post is offensive. Not to mention moderatly ignorant. *Any* (PC) game releases with a junkload of errors simply because PCs are not all identical; what my computer will hiccup on will be ignored by another computer -- or not come up at all! -- simply because I have different hardware than that other computer. On top of that, your comment about "Developers are notoriously lax about recognizing errors they will be responsible for fixing... " has the right e

I was playing a game, minding my own bussiness (tiny galaxy, max opponents) when the game suddenly dropped a lot of the graphics (stellar backgrounds, trade route "lines", the lines that break up sectors and parsecs, but not planets ships and starbases). I saved the game to a save slot, then quit and reloaded. Save slot caused the game to crash, even after I rebooted (figuring it was a leftover from the earlier wierdness). It turns out that the savegame itself was corrupt, so I went ahead and
