It still is not allowing me to use the graphics? Whats strange about that is that I can use sliders or gauges from other widgets but just can't create my own! ggrrr...

I'll check and see if thats the problem. I didn't realise that it mainly uses BMP's thanks for the help I'll get back if it doesn't.

This is an interesting post because I am trying to create a volume slider, however even though I have the graphics made for the slider the object will not except any form of foreground or background images for said slider. Now for some reason I can use a slider or gauge from another widget or object just not my own? Mind you, I can only copy that object in order to use the gauge or slider not create it myself. Any suggestions as to why this is happenin

I found out the other day when I was working on my player that it is based on the type of players you have installed on your machine. For example the only reason that the eq will only work with WinAmp is do to the plug-ins that DX looks for. There are several readme text files that you can look through for the commands and which players it operates. go to programfiles/stardock/objectmedia there are two text files that should have all the info

I use Paintshop Pro for alot of my skinning as well as webpage graphics. I know there are some out there who use Photoshop instead. What I would like to know is; Which program is better? or is it simply based on preference or skill? As I look at our top designers skins I often think to myself 'wow! what did they use to make that?!'

you know I made a mistake; 'CybrLock' is supposed to be 'CybrLok' oops... the point with that is that CybrLok doesn't have the 'fancy' techniques like SimpleX. I learned from a comment that I needed to add in sound affects and better animations to my widgets, which i did with SimpleX. I also improved on the presentation of the widgets to make them more appealing to the user. BUT, knowing if users are having problems with the function would be gre

Thanks guys! I think skinners need to hear that more often! I might be a slacking designer who needs skill but by the godz of asgard I want comments! How else am i to know whats wrong with my skin/widget/or what ever else i make? heck there was a post about the diffference between DX and another gadget program and comments had been posted about severa

That is a great start although My foresight says; 'there will be another...a dark one... it will come soon after.' [shakes head] anyway, would love to see the finished product. Of course with something like that you can make many different versions.

Another thing to consider is the creators skills. If the skinner has learned more or improved on their skills with their skins then take the old skin and beaf it up a bit. Or as I have a habit of doing. Start with the original skin and end up creating a whole new one from it. I dont' know if its how my creativity works but. I start with something pritty simple and by the time I'm done it turns out to be completely different yet cooler! a good example o

sometimes popularity and whether users like the skins can be a problem when they do not comment on the skin. For example; I would love to know what people think of my skins but, I find maybe 1 comment if im lucky. How do we find out if there are any problems with the skin if nobody bothers to tell us?

In my humble opinion; Being one who modifies and creates widgets/objects, The only way to be able to realy understand something is to do it. You can't learn scripting if you do not look at others scripts. I think the same applies to widgets wether they be from one company or the next. As I say sometimes: Form = Function besides, DesktopX is a program focused on 'Themes' not objects. If they wanted to do nothing but widgets they would not be where

As far as skins... I could list a bunch. with the comment on visibilty and usability with skins. I will load a skin test it for a couple days and see how well it functions with my day to day lifestyle. Of course I do the same with my own skins. You dont know what you have until you play with it! what do they call that? play testing?

as far as a regular time text there is an easier way that i used. In the DX Player plugin under text display there is a selection titled 'Time' or 'Time (24hour)' the same could be done with the date. I had to look for those options in DX 3 because the plugin had been removed in the 3rd version.

In an understanding of the article my first thought was as follows; "All the 'Widgets' look the same no matter what program it is from." I suppose what I am getting at is that even though each program runs the 'Widgets' differently the graphics look pretty much the same. So, in my opinion it just depends on what program you feel comfortable running for your 'Widgets'. BTW that was a nice article...
