Games existed before computers, and the essence of fun comes from good design of the interplay of resources and strategies. I know there's a lot of work to do under the hood. But unless the core game elements all play together well, all the stable, graphically amaz
Do you still think you'll have a chance to dig into the tactical AI in WoM?
Yes. I'm inclined to do a 1.31 first because there are some crash issues that are still in the game that I find highly annoying and the cause is known but the fix is difficult (multithreading related in case anyone is interested). Then in 1.4, I want to continue the AI improvements particularly in the area of unit design, city design, etc. I

This may not be widely understood but the factors that led to WOM's initial release being so disappointing were pretty unique. Let's bear in mind, the entire team from Galactic Civilizations II (and all expansions) worked on WOM. We have very low turn over so it was the same team. Same designer, same developers plus new ones. Same artists plus new artists. That should, I hope, tell you something about the nature of game development. It's very easy to forget t

I continue to work on War of Magic because I enjoy it. But the thing I think some people may not be seeing -- and indeed, *I* didn't see -- is just how much better FE is going to be than WOM was. When I started work on the v1.3 feature set, my expectations for FE were considerably lower. I thought FE would address the weaknesses of WOM and take the game in a different direction. But what FE has done instead is make me realize that FE is simply at a different le

Also want to add my vote to fixing training time. Question: Are you using the player lag as a way to make the AI tougher, i.e. they get training time reduced? Seems th

It's good analysis for FE. But WOM has the citizen system. It's not going away. I like it, but agreed it needs to be better balanced.

Dammit Frogboy now I really want FE.....How long do we have to wait:)
The beta should be out in about a month. I shouldn't say this (not publicly anyway) but FE is a little discouraging to me as I don't think anyone is going to want to play WOM after FE is available. I was hoping that FE and WOM would just be different but FE is just better. One of the

Rish and others - I fear some of you are taking the wrong lessons from War of Magic. With Twilight of the Arnor, we knew (and so did the players to a large extent) what could and couldn't be done with the engine. With War of Magic, we didn't. 90% of the time we agreed with the beta testers. But also a great deal of the time what we wanted to do couldn't be done with the engine. Now, that in itself wouldn't have been enough to wreck the launch of W

Change Log: v1.2c + Began work to make tactical combat occur simultaneously with the attacker getting a slight advantage (still more to do) + City population starts out at 1 instead of 0 so that players can build more things right away (note that it it takes one turn for this to occur at the start of the game) + SpecialistCost grows slower and tops out at 10X the base cost + Farms no longer cost money to build + Minimum

There is a campaign in testing. We had to make some underlying game code changes to support it.
Brad - I created a thread here to poll simultaneous tactical combat damage. If you add simultaneous damage and add first strike ability it would go a long way to deepening tactical combat. P.S. - no ATI Radeon DX errors yet. Crossing my fingers.
I agree with this. It's just a question of whether I'm able to do it as I'm not familiar with that code.
I just straight up DO NOT GET the hit point reduction. It seems completely illogical. Tactical combat should last longer, not shorter, especially considering how easy it is to cheese the AI in tactical. What's the point in having 8 men with 45 health get taken down in a single turn by an enemy 8-man squad with 80 attack? And that's just using bloody boar spears. http://i.imgur.com/jo0fl.png and that's in a city! They really

FE removes housing. See https://forums.elementalgame.com/409368 for what has changed in v1.2b.

The release team went with v1.2b instead of v1.29 but it's the v1.3 beta. Well? What do you guys think?

When a sovereign dies, it will give its kingdom to its heir. Oh heck yes. Just like that, dynasties have become a thing which matters. I hope this change makes it into FE too, even though that game will have dynasties disabled by default. + Repeatable improvements now increa
I'm curious to see how notable locations function now. There are some high-level huts that you can't really find early game without unbalancing the rest of the game (600 gildar comes to mind).
The high level huts don't show up early game. They only show up wyen someone researches the tech. Hence, you gotta be careful that you're going to be able explore them.
