Heh. This sounds like a conversation Derek and I had today. Something like this: Me: The problem with Spears vs. Swords isn't that the swords aren't "better". It's that the spears are already enough to kill a target enemy 5X over. Sure, the swords can do it 20X over but dead is dead. I think the weapons just need a general tuning (or HP increased).

I didn't vote (since I'm the lead coder of said game). I think many of you would agree that bringing on Kael to design and lead Fallen Enchantress and bringing the Galactic Civilizations team back together to code it has made a major impact here. That said, I'd say that game is still months from being ready for general availability: Crashes. We need crash reports because we're getting to the point where the # of crash reports are very rare
Report your crashes please. See beta group for posting reports.
In what way do you think it's broken? It has been heavily modified since beta 1. I personally like it. A lot. There are other weapons that do massively more damage in 1 hit than Maul can do in several hits.
AI doesn't design units. It only uses pre-made units. So my job is to whine to the design team to make more units.
Game of Thrones only has Men. You don't need Orcs, Elves, Dwarves and Goblins for the factions to be considered "different". They just need more features that make them effectively different. And calling the factions all Men with different facial features and such could be said of pretty much all fantasy universes. What's the difference between an Elf and a man or a Dwarf and a man or even an Orc and a man. It's the mechanics that make them different. &
I don't think they were intended to be editable. But they were intended to be very very cheap.
RE Reporting crashes: https://forums.elementalgame.com/415288 I believe one change in beta 2 is that crashes are uploaded to the server via the Windows error reporting thingy. So we should have a lot more to work with. But when I hear someone having a lot of crashes, that definitely makes my antenna stick up since our testing lab is finding crashing to be exceedingly rare.
Sorry can't get a game going long enough to comment on, but still got my fingers crossed!!
Hopefully you're turning in bug reports. We're getting very few crash logs.
You're definitely going to want to be storing mana. As in, >1000 mana before you get into a war. It's important to remember that we haven't even added in the unique champion spells yet or world spells.
I am too. The issue seems to be that they're not really goodie huts. They're monster lairs. I'm not sure what type of object that is (code wise).
Agreed.
A big issue I'm running into with 0.85 is the experience. It's too heavily biased towards the leader of the enemy side. Without more experience, you level up slowly. That's what 0.86 (tomorrow) will address. I can assure you, there's a huge difference when facing a cave bear as a level 4 champion versus level 2.
I dunno. I'd almost prefer the techs increasing the $$$ you get from cities rather than monkeying around with the taxes. That way, players are making a choice. As the game gets more balanced, I think you'll see that some people may want to turn down the difficulty (we're probably going to have Easy be the default instead of Normal) since a lot of users are used to gold just spilling everywhere. There is also the question of whether the game should be set up so that
Greetings! The team has gotten beta 2 out the door today. We really hope you like what you see. For those of you who won't have time to play it tonight, fear not, we plan to release an update tomorrow with a number of bug fixes that came in too late to make it into today's build. Hopefully, you find this build very stable (i.e. it shouldn't be crashing for anyone). There's still a lot of rough edges which we will be working out throu
I've got some AI tweaks that didn't make it in (tactical combat stuff). I'll ask Charles to look at the auto resolve to see what changed there. I'm not familiar with that code so I can't say why it's doing what it's doing. The other thing I'm anxious to get in is the XP distribution update which favors more XP when there's more units (0.85 doesn't really reward facing a large army but rather looks at how powerful the top units is).
We'll check it out. We are planning on doing a 0.86 maint update tomorrow anyway to get in all the fixes and tweaks that we wanted to get in today but didn't make the deadline.
We have that for
Brad, you've started before several times over the years that this was planned. Whatever happened to this? I doubt more then maybe 100 people would take you up on this, but it's a nice touch.
We did that for War of Magic v1.4 (you can contact and get a master DVD shipped to you for just shipping cost).
Yea, the 1000 turn thing is basically the equivalent of the Civilization "retire" thing. You can keep playing but the score will be the score.
I don't know if this has been announced but the Master Quest is getting its own special area on the map rather than being a normal quest tile.
The next big area to tackle will be diplomacy. It's basically untouched from beta 1.
Don't worry. I won't be nerving the AI. :) I was just enjoying seeing "it all come together" finally. The really good strategy game players will be able to cream it still, I have no doubt about that. But it's definitely playing much better than in 0.77. And I'm not even close to running out of things to do to improve it. Every time I play it I still see things that can be improved on. It's still a challenge to determine when it'
I didn't lose. The AI cheated. I just want that for the record. If I had the same tools as the AI. i would have won.
Screw this. I was playing well. It's not me. It's math. The UI needs more features. I would have won if I had rally points and could coordinate like that.
