Why do people bother talking about new music services competing with iTunes. They're all in a different market. The other services are shut out from playing on the iPod, and iTunes doesn't play in WMP. Two different animals entirely, I could see this being trouble for Napster though.

It was always a lot of work to make different skins for all the mini programs, and as such there were very few full themes to choose from. There may be some loss of creative control, but having WB skin everything, or neutral (but not windows-look) widgets goes a long way towards making all that work redundant.

I think the biggest thing driving this was the limited nature of the XP Visual Styles that were out there. 90% of them for the first several months were little but recolors of the XP interface, and that sort of thing became acceptable. I don't think skin sites would have even accepted them as uploads before then, but it became mainstream and popular. I applaud the GUI Olympics, if only because some of the best skins of the last several months have come out in the opening entries, and some ori

I just won't buy their crippled, DRM'd shit files when I can make my own off a CD with my own balance of size vs quality AND play them on the same devices that their POS files play on AND use them on my portable and my computers without worrying about the stupid DRM breaking on me. And I can also use the CD when I don't have a computer handy. So there. When I can get portable files that can be burned at full quality to CD then maybe I'll think about it, and even then a CDs worth better be les

Serves them right, I remember a couple of years back when even the venerable Joe Bevilaqua (on news.stardock.com) was concerned that Apple would sue him for having 'aqua' in his last name.

I agree that CSS + Divs saves a substantial amount of HTML, I've managed to take sites down to less than half the code while adding more client-side functionality at the same time. NS4 is dead

this has always been a credit to Stardock products...that they work out of the box unlike most alternate shell products. I don't have time to Photoshop up 100 icons for a Litestep dock of a theme that I'll use for 2 weeks.

I find just about all of the ThemeXP skins to be "painting" rather than skinning, since they look so much like recolors of the original Luna theme that comes with XP. WindowBlinds allows for more creative skinning of the window, re: window shape and button location. Of course sometimes looking at the WB section you wouldn't know that...but that's a different story...

I think the complaints would be better directed against those software makers who don't follow the application design guidelines for their respective OS's. It is much more of a speed bump to have things behave in a funny way, such as the reversed button order in Photoshop dialogs, than it is to have buttons universally look different than the 'standard' but the same as each other. I don't think this article will be taken seriously by many.

I think this a good way to support a site that does a lot for all of us, and to save the time of downloading everything. And throwing in new themes is just gravy. Great idea Frogboy! btw, how do I send permission for my skins? My old email address is no longer active so I probably didn't get the request.
