Where is the main focus of the game? I understand that the economy will be very simple - which is disappointing in my book since I take complex and rich over simple anytime. So since the economy will not be a major focus - since managing it will supposedly be very simple - will the focus of the game lie in the battles?
Gah...I can't help it. Just because the economic system is simplified doesn't mean domestic management won't be engaging...streamlining economics
1- Pure -->hypothesis I really didn't want to answer any of the questions (leave that to Brad) but this is one that I keep going back and forth on. It's definatly more rewarding, for us and the players (I beleive) to do meaty, full blown expansions where we stuff all the goods in. On the other hand, it's A LOT of fun to have a game t

This is actually a really crappy setup to show map generation with...Tiny maps with Single Continents aren't that much fun :( But yeah, rives, lakes, and islands really show themselves as you maess with the settings (but, since there'll be no boats in beta0, we can't really have islands be a part of the game).
I sure hope attacking supply lines is still present in some form.
It is in our current planned economic system.
The continents still winf up looking more or less square
I blame that on the 'single continent' landmass placement...actually, i think we're placing too much land and it just ends up filling available sectors to be big blocks...will examine and fix.
I guess they have to work on this some more, because the resulting map has same large areas with very straight coastlines
Yeah, I'm actually working on some map generation fixes right now. If you like those vids I can post some more up as values and calculations get tweaked.
How does combat work right now? Like CIV?
Yeah...it's instant and ugly (the UI is around 6 months old and hasen't been touched since). It'll be getting the most love over the course of the beta cycle.

Yeah, they're in the office as we speak...dunno what kind of offical announcements will come of it but it's great to have IC around to show elemental to and talk all things game dev :)

Goodie Huts will actually allow for a lot of interaction...some will be 'lost crates' that may have treaure (traditional one-time goodie huts), some may be Troll Encamplemts, etc.

Major To-Do items still for Alpha... --------------------------- - AI - Python is now fully hooked up for the AI, who now has their logic structure implemented. AI currently runs around, picking up goodie huts (that it shouldn't know about) and building cities (not next to resources). For Alpha, we need them to activly explore the map, making notes of discovered map objects and acting accordingly (grabbing goodie huts within their level, battling lesser
Will thte Epic generator be included in Elemental???
I die a little every time people bring up the E.G. :( No, the Epic Generator will not be in Elemental, but we'll definatly have some robust event logging to help AAR writers do their thing. As for the others... 64-bit is waiting on Havok's libraries....I'll see if Jesse has heard any progress from our friends over there. Python will definatly be used for alot of our more intricate
Next someone is going to make a post asking if their sovereign will be able to use the toilet in game...
It's my fault...I got the ball rolling :( But honestly, you'd be suprised the weird stuff the ESRB will get anal about. I had to resubmit the 'PM2008' cutscene because it lacked SFX...like we're going to randomly throw in racial slurs and people getting killed as some bobbleheads bounce down the street :P

I was worried this was a thread for sharing picts [e digicons]:puke:[/e] I have Yarlen on it, but it looks like we're good (for anyone that wants to customize their 'barbarian' sovereign).

No prob...we'll defaintly be addressing style in more depth in the upcoming months. Also (and I know ive posted this on another thread) here's a screenshot of GalCiv2 around 8 months before it came out... http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/galacticcivilizations2/images/0/101/ REALLY rough...and Elemental hs around the same time until gold, so I have no doubts v1.0 is going to shine&
Please educate me on this subject.
Gladly :) And I'll keep this breif becuase I know we'll be talking style A LOT in the upcoming months. We looked for a style that wasn't done before. Everyone seems to be pushing the WoW look nowadays, and while I LOVE that bold, characterized style, we knew that style has been WELL covered. Instead we took inspiration from the realistic shapes, soft washes and graphical penwork of Alphonse Mucha.... <img

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/galacticcivilizations2/images/0/101/ Here's a shot of GC2:Dreadlords from roughly the same 'time until release'. I meen, the starship dosent even have textures on it :) We have alot of work ahead of us making the 'fantasy illustration' style look as good as a 'realistic' style, but it's certainly not insurmountable ;)
BoogieBac: you realize that if Frogboy doesn't make a Dev journal entry showing them off, all we do is star at pictures like this...
I know...really I was just kiddingaround about Brad posting screenshots of the game. You'd just be suprised how much time and effort can be sucked up by 'graphics coding'. For alot of our developersmay never look 'good enough', but that's why we continue to work on the game post release, isn't it :) We bring this quote u
"The lighting and shadows aren't even in yet!!! Don't show these!"
And what does he do? Make a journal entry showing them off [e digicons]x_x[/e] Seriously though, if we could work on improving the graphics forever, we would. It's so much fun and there's really no end to what can be done, but alas, games need...you know...gameplay ;)

I have to say, the hardest part of this project (so far) has been making this scaling system that allows a fun, playable game across all spectrum of system specs, world settings, zoom levels, and stages of gameplay. It's not a game where we get x polys to work with and y draw calls and we make it look great as possible. On some systems we have X / 2 polys, others we have X times 1000 polys...its quite a wide range and juggling all that, while managing appealing visuals,
but I'm not sure if it's just a BoogieBac thingy or if somebody is saying "go on the forums and leak blahblahbalh".
Haha You really think we're that coordinated?! ;) No, my posts are all a matter of looking over our work and picking out things that wont piss off marketing :) Like right now screenshots have to go through them since we have several 'exclusive' magazine peices going out soon...so instead you get icon sheets and original peices of concept art.
