Because I've mixed 2 SATA and 2 Ultra ATA drives in my Dell box and the BIOS doesn't like the second SATA drive. When I first power up, BIOS can't find SATA #2. And it won't find SATA #2 until I continue the boot and restart. Being able to shut down from the logon screen saves about 5 minutes every time I have to do this drill. My computer stays on a lot. There is no upgrade price for DX 2 users (or DX 2 Pro users). It's a free upgrade. Well there goes Brad again - keeping his customers happy by doing just like he said he would. C'mon. Aren't you going to at least try to recoup some of your development costs from your existing user base?

Running 2.40f[a].002 Unable to save a dx theme. Steps to repro: 1. Right-click tray icon and choose Save or Save As (or choose "Configure DesktopX" and select Theme>Save As) 2. Observe Dual-Monitor info dialog. Click Yes. 3. Save Them as... dialog opens with desired path and filename already filled in. 4. Click Save. 5. Try to load theme, or do another Save As and Browse...notice the previously saved theme

That's interesting. For me, the only issues I've encountered with ZAPro or ZASecurity are: 1. TrueVector interfering with a boot-time chkdsk of the system drive (fixed) 2. Non-fatal, on-exit error from ExplorerPlus et. al. (fixed) 3. Abnormal termination of trayserver.exe (in work) I've tried competing products. Norton was the first to go because of its resource-hogginess and system intrusiveness once it was installed. Sygate was user-unfriendly and unintuitive. I a

Still playing... When I unhide the OB tray with ZA having been "loaded at startup", trayserver.exe shuts down. I can restart it, but unhiding the tray shuts it down again, even if I subsequently shut down ZA. Jeff

Update: Did a clean uninstall and reinstall of the new version. Same results as the upgrade installation: Manual launch of ZA after start-up allows normal use of OB systray and ZA Control Center Auto-start on system start using CC preferences still produces invisible icons. Here's the workaround if you are comfortable editing the registry or have a "startup manager" kind of utility available: 1) Delete the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run entry for z

You should always do a 'Clean' install..if you want to try that, let me know and I'll give the path to type in to un-install properly. Sure, I'll give it a try. I've been avoiding clean installs because I've been afraid to lose all my carefully crafted program permissions. Jeff

Thanks, yrag. The workaround fixes the issue with starting ZA manually and then launching the Control Center. But it doesn't fix the issue when ZA is set to load at start up. Is the CacheCleaner module off-limits for now? Do you have any insight as to why this is happening? You came up with your fix pretty darn quickly. BTW, this is an upgrade, not a clean install. Jeff

Thanks for the input. I switched from Sygate to ZA 2 years ago. Sygate had its own issues. But you are right: Sygate is an effective firewall. For me, it was a choice between usability and which set of issues I wanted to deal with. Jeff

The error message reads: "The instruction at "0x50008f87" referenced memory at "0x00000004". The memory could not be "read". The EXPlus and PD versions are 6.2 and 5.x, respectively. The error message occurred at random times in other apps (Premiere Pro and WMP, to name two) with the *exact same* instruction at the *exact same* address. However, the ExPlus and PD errors were easiest to reproduce and were reproducible 100% of the time. I also used them as examples because I know there

It seems that the latest version (5.5.062.000) of ZA Security Suite (and ZAPro, I would guess) has issues with ObjectBar. Launching ZA at system start-up or launching the ZA Control Center causes all of the icons in an ObjectBar system tray to vanish. The clickable objects are still there because they highlight, provide tool tips and launch when you click on them. It's just that the icons are gone. If I launch ZA manually after reboot and *don't* launch the Control Center, th

Just read a story about a federal appeals court ruling that licenses for sampled music must be obtained before they can be used in another piece of music, even if the sample is "unrecognizable". The story is here: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5944091/. From a moral and legal standpoint, what does this imply for the skinning community? So far, the community has set its own rules and standards, but is that likely to change if rulings like this start to affect more than the musical arts?<

Maybe I'm being too harsh on Microsoft - I didn't really consider the possible changes between beta (now) and release (then). If the history of OSX on the AqS web site is accurate, then apparently the sneak previews of the first OSX beta were underwhelming when compared to the release. Maybe MS has something very special waiting in the wings. @DZ - it sounds like a great plan and I look forward watching the site grow. If your work on AqS is any indicator, AeS will be terrific. Secondly, that answers my question - though DesktopX could do the same sort of thing. I do think, however, that it demonstrates that IconX needs more features as this is the sort of thing that IconX should be doing. (Note: my tongue is planted firmly in my cheek) GASP!! Brad, don't do that!! Can you imagine the outcry when you incorpora

Warning: A Differing Opinion. Maybe. What is it with Microsoft? Mr. Gates has the resources to hire the very best (fill in the blank with your favorite job) and yet we get stuff that is NQR (Not Quite Right) out of the box. I looked at the Longhorn Slate skin by Voodoo_Freak and I just shook my head. I am not in any way criticizing his skill, talent or enthusiasm for skinning, so please don't even go there. On the contrary, I expect that he is quite talented and did a phenomenal job

My random thoughts... If you'd like to see a good example of an original widget for AveDesk/SysStats with great graphics, check out infoline for sysstats http://www.aqua-soft.org/board/index.php?showtopic=19942&hl=infoline++tiger Great Tiger emulation and AFAIK not ripped from anything any more than a panther skin for WB is a rip. Speaking of rips, I disagree with A.H.'s assessment of ripping and/or reverse engineering. Followed to its logical conclusion, any weather

I currently have 2 AveDesk desklets and 5 DesktopX objects on my desktop. I wouldn't want to be without any of them. That means I run both apps. That also means I am very happy that I can get exactly what I want by running both apps. A certain US President once said that a "rising tide lifts all boats". (begin stupid metaphor) The widget tide is rising and I'm glad I've got more than one boat to choose from. I sure hope that the AveDesk and DX "camps" quit trying to sink each other's boat

I mentioned this in the NGs. When I sync my stardock news account with Outlook Express 6, as the last message is downloaded and the sync dialog closes, so does OD+ 1.04b[b].002. I rolled back to the release version 1.04 and have had no trouble since. Jeff
