I'm glad I could help, Daiwa. :) I've been hoping that the IP developers would get the exclusion list working for the "Repair all processes" option. Then I could add the few problem programs (like msconfig, mspaint, etc.) to the exclusion list and iprepair.dll do its thing for all the rest. I've always been able to add stuff to the exclusion list, but IP has always ignored the list. -Jeff
The issue is cured by only allowing the repair of shell icons for specific processes. Thanks, JeffBDVS. What process do you need to 'include' to replace the icons in MSOffice Open/Save dialogs? That's really the only place where I want the shell icons replaced aside from explorer.exe.
I used the brute force method: I added the .exe files for Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher and Word to the list. -Jeff PS - Ironically, IP itself (and a few o
msconfig shows for me with IP4 installed
Try setting Repair Shell Icons to "All Procesess". Then try to run msconfig again. I'll bet you don't get a UI. This issue also affects mspaint, Fax Viewer, the History viewer for Norton Internet Security 2008, and several other programs. The issue is cured by only allowing the repair of shell icons for specific processes. (Obviously, don't add msconfig to that list) :D -Jeff
What happens when you go into the Icon Packager directory, right click on Icon Explorer > Run as Admin.
If you were addressing my post, I'm the admin and the only user on my XP box, so the Vista elevated privileges thing won't work. And my "activation" issue is like this: I can't apply icons to individual files or folders because IP can't find "\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Stardock\Icon Packager\Activate.exe" Obviously Activate.exe is in the I

OK, so now I want to be a squeaky data point. Please, *Please*, PLEASE fix this activation issue. I can't change icons for file types in Windows Explorer or any other file manager because of this. At least a workaround exists: go into the full IP GUI and make the changes there. However, that is inconvenient for this situation: coming across a new or a used-to-be-rare-on-my-system-but-now-I-use-it-a-lot file type whose icon needs changing. -Jeff

I get to be another data point. Yippee. DVD drive not skinned. When I try to manually change the icon for the drive, I get a warning that "Activate.exe" is not in the Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Stardock\Icon Packager folder (which is where all of my icon packs are stored). Windows XP SP3 32-bit. IP 4.00.163. IP was first updated, then uninstalled and then reinstalled to try to solve the problem. All done through Impulse 1.01.155. -Jeff

Wizard1956, Thanks for the idea. I actually have used Ares before, but the titlebars are too skinny IMHO to match the Impulse look and feel. The gloss is good, though. Eminence is another great skin, but again, too thin titlebars make it not-quite-right. I'm using Noire right now, but a different gloss is needed. I just think the Impulse look is terrific. Good enough to make me want to switch from Diamond, which is one of the best skins I've ever used.

I have opened a ticket with Stardock support. Latest update to WB 6.02.025 messes up the menu item fonts in the Diamond skin. The font gets a very "mac-ish" appearance, and very long menu items that also have a keyboard shortcut have the shortcut text overlapping the item text. Example: Open Adobe After Effects CS3 Go to File>Open Recent Projects "D:\My Documents\My Videos\Projects\After Effects\After Effects CS3\pI_Tutorial_Source.aep Ctrl+Alt+Shift+P" <

@vStyler (or any other skinner who knows): Is there a skin element that I could remove or modify in SKS that would essentially "turn off" the part of the Start button graphic that extends above the taskbar? Since I don't see the taskbar except on system start/stop, this would be less annoying than to always have the button remnant showing. I could select a different taskbar skin for use with the rest of the Diamond VS, but then I'd lose the very nice Start Menu that co

Thanks, guys, for responding! I don't think that this is strictly a "that's how the taskbar works" issue. The reason I say that is because of the way that the "Eminence" taskbar looks. This is a screenshot of the same corner of my monitor with the Eminence visual style applied: I'm going to try to see how Vista handles its own default taskbar (I'm on XP) and compare the results. If it turns out that

When I apply an icon package using IconPackager, The attributes of the "My Music", "My Pictures" and "My Videos" folders get changed. They go from normal folders to System folders. This change in attributes affects a couple of my programs, namely Adobe Encore DVD 2.0 and XYplorer. What happens is that the System attribute makes those folders invisible in the affected programs. I have to manually change the attributes of the folders back to normal. Is there a way to force IP
Stardock vs Apple - a multi-billion dollar company? I think they would ignore any cease and desist letters. Stardock would probably need to get attorneys involved. Correct me if I'm wrong but as for the dock itself - didn't Apple come out with the first one?
First, my post was entirely tongue-in-cheek. Second, it is the "Stacks" feature of the Leopard dock that is the target of my jest - ObjectDock had that feature long
