Based on a quick 90minute play session, Beta 1 is already feeling pretty damned good and better than Fallen Enchantress! It just feels smoother and slicker somehow, must be a combination of factors. The battle maps feel and look better than before and I already prefer the way champions are being handled. I think this is on course to be a very strong release, so great start team! :D

I'm throwing a lot of fire magic down in my current game and have found that the flame wall spell causes my computer to hang for maybe a full 10 seconds. I see the 'spell casting' text come up, everything freezes, then it eventually kicks back in showing the dissipating particle effects from the end of the spell animation. I'm not sure if this was the case in 1.00 build, but I get the same issue every time I cast it. Other than that 1.01 does seem to have

If I bought the map pack it would be more out of a desire to support the FE project than because I want hand-crafted maps. I like to play the game highly randomised tbh. I would be far more interested in extra quests, equipment items, spells (although probably better suited to expansions tbh) and character customisation options (faces, hair styles, clothing..).

I have removed the beta install completely (I think) from my computer. I have downloaded FE 1.0 through Stardock Central. But when I come to installing, Stardock Central keeps going not responding on me and that is as far as I get. I have tried clicking the Opn Folder button and running the install file manually but that didn't do any better. Soooo.....suggestions anyone? EDIT - Looks like I'm getting there! After a REALLY lon

I find that booting the game is very slow and when I turned anti-aliasing on performance dropped like a rock. It feels like there are some things that can be cleaned up somewhere. Incidentally, I find launching the installer also strangely slow. Installing the game in the first place was dicey and although its been better for patching I still find I have to click the .exe then :wait:.

I think that FE is going to be more of a sequel to most. It has been a long time since Elemental (I also don't think of Elemental; War Of Magic as 'Wom') and it sounds like there are many far reaching changes being made compared even to Elemental 1.4. The closest I can come right now is to call it a 'reimagining' of Elemental. The problem is that no member of the community can really comment with any certainty as we haven't played it at all yet.&nbs

If that list comes out as I hope it does, then FE should turn WoM into the game I had been looking forwards to for a long long time. Unfortunately it sounds like it will be awhile coming yet. Why must time be so cruel? [e digicons]:'([/e] I'd like to hear more about the new tactical/combat systems. Will the damage types/defences work like they did in GalCivII, or are you going for something quite different?

I've just played an hour or so of 1.1 and I've got to say, the whole thing feels so much better already! It feels smoother, faster and the UI changes make quite a difference. My first impression is that it is a big a promising step fowards. I like the magic system alot more already, the global pool with maintenance costs for enchantments (which I can discard) is a much better implementation and a step back towards realising the game as I expected it to be fr

Skim read the thread a bit, and I'm late to it, but here's what I'm thinking. I basically shelved Elemental until at least 1.1 comes out, and tbh I'd kinda expected it to be out by now. I appreciate that there's some pretty hefty changes coming and that doesn't happen over night, but it feels like the launch was some time ago now, and little has happened yet to the core game beyond bug/stability fixing. I think that has an effect on the comm
That said, how exactly is confirmation of purchase date handled? Specifically, if I'm going to buy, might just order the (apparently not too) Limited Edition; however, would do so off another site (Amazon) where I can get free shipping and save a chunk of change. It obviously wouldn't be in my hands to register in the next couple days and not directly purchased from Impulse for your records there; would this exclude me from eli
After v1.09E, we’ll take a step back to see how people are playing multiplayer and start putting together plans for future improvements in that area based on the number of people in the community playing it.
I think that Stardock need to be a bit careful on this bit, personally I haven't been giving Elemental as much attention as I want to just yet. This comes down to two factors: 1) I happen to have been busy lately.

The multiplayer doesn't detract from the single player, but could help to add a fresh perspective to the game mechanics. It is a 'launch' feature some will have bought the game for, it has to be deployed some time. Personally I want to try it, if its too problematic I don't have to use it for a bit longer, but at least I get to make the choice.
Imbuing another champion near the start costs 1/4 of your soveriegn's essence but levelling up just once, can add that right back. There's no sense of being weakened and working to gain it back. It's like a sledgehammer. It's there's, it's gone, it's there again. All stat bonuses/penalties feel like this. A big on/off switch. Imbuing should hurt but it shoudn't cripple (unless you go nuts with it). It should also take time to regain, not
the spell book differentiation idea is a good one too. though i would vary them by adding other affects to them rather than making them weaker in comparison. ie, earth spells do just damage (ut slightly more in the first turn), freeze spells have a chance to hold, fire spells do residual damage in the following turn, lightning has a chance to chain to nearby units etc
Secondary effects could be a

Hi all, I'm feeling the need to talk. Its been awhile since I did that around here. I'm an old school Stardock fan and observer, going back to the day soon after Master of Orion 3 entered my possession and inside the box I found a flyer for a game called Galactic Civilisations. Moo3 had been one of my most anticipated releases ever, and turned out to be utter junk, and never redeemed itself. So I bought GalCiv, a much more modest game by a little indie dev team calle

This might not have been noticed much, but the Elemental catalogue page in the Impulse Store is using some really old screen shots. You might want to update the eye-candy for those just hearing about the game. ;) Sadly I haven't had the time to beta test much at all, but really looking forwards to the 'finished' game in a couple of weeks. Unfortunately I'm not as single or unemployed as I was when GalCiv2 was in beta. I miss having that much expendable
Randomization vs. Richness. I won’t lie to you, we have a trade off in front of us and it’s a big one. We can randomly generate the battlefields in tactical combat OR we can have it pick from a series of pre-made tactical battle maps. The randomly generated ones won’t be as interesting but they’ll more accurately reflect the local terrain. I’m preferring the pre-made ones because we can add some spectacular strategic

I was exploring the border of a neighbours territory with my Sovereign when the neighbours terroitory expanded. I couldn't move without declaring war so attempted diplomacy instead. (Consider this problem A - stranded sovereign) First off I hadn't research the treaty to allow movement in enemy land, so I waited and did that. Once I had it, I still had no option to sign the treaty so attempted to trade technology so that the neighbour would have it too.

Small thing but very irritating and I'd think really quick to fix. When one of my units deserts because I broke the economy (again) the game gives this message: "A unit has defected to (your city)" I was left wondering why the game had just given me a free unit until I realised that the unit had defected FROM my city. Apparently I have to pay my militia or they leave, who'd a thunk it?

I have came looking here after I noticed this. The battle result page shows my scouts as having Start XP 0, XP gain 30, Total XP 30. After winning several fights I realised that although this screen says the unit is being awarded XP for the battle, the XP is 'forgotten' between battles and the unit remains forever lvl 1. Something isn't right here. :S Either its 'as intended' but the UI is unclearly laid out, bugged, o

I have experienced a similar bug where I am seeing 'ghost' unit icons left on the map. But in my case they cannot be selected or attacked (I can move units into the same square as if they weren't there), take no actions and did not appear after reloading; I think that I encountered them all while exploring. My guess is that they were units destroyed by non-player factions before I explored that part of the map.
