Totally agree with vStyler~ That's why I seldom make full mock-up before getting start with SkinStudio, for every skins usually takes hundreds for times to re-load for test :D
Your start panel is way too cool! But in most cases, it's hard to realize such big texture, thanks to the new layer function in skinstudio, we can make more idea into real skin but for myself I haven't tried a lot :D
@ PoSmedley In SkinStudio, the states are placed like as this sequence: Normal, Pressed, Disabled (Very rare in daily use) , Hover, Activated, Activated & Hover And actually, when we make a skin in skinstudio, we can directly goto the "Help" tab

Sorry for no making these posts step-by-step, but originally I just want to show the overall progress and show different sides of making a skin. Here, I used Photoshop CS3 and later, SkinStudio will surely be used to make it into a wba.
Today is about to extend the rough design to other parts. Window borders and start panel play big role in a theme, so after the rough design of window borders is done, I choose to add the start panel in Atlas for this stage. To keep functionality and simplicity, no textures are used here, but to make the plain panel more interesting, I added some highlight and a stripe in the top part of the panel. I agree with vStyler, I don't use a template psd file, and for the size, everytime I start a new skin, just go with a random size, just not too big, not too small.
