I've faced the same problem as OP when it comes to the end game for most 4x games, including GalCiv 2, being kind of dull. Once I own most of the map I just stop playing and even though I tell myself I've achieved victory it still feels like kind of a let down. I see a lot of people are focused on varied victory conditions as a solution to this problem, which is something I whole heatedly support, but I thought I'd bring up something I haven't seen mentioned in this thread yet

+1 to anything that leads to making use of dead planets, gas giants, etc. I always support things that could lead to effective raids on enemy infrastructure and economy without the need for a full invasion of a colony. It encourages more strategic decision making.
Looks great so far! I like the design of the Yor ships and I'm happy to hear that we'll have design tools to help automate things like ship symmetry, which was always a pain for me in GalCiv2.
Long time Stardock and GalCiv fan. First time poster. Super excited for this announcement! I can't wait to watch this game develop and eventually get into my 4x loving hands :)

I just preordered the CD. Huge GalCiv I fan. I'd love to get my ideas into the Beta of GalCiv II. Any idea how we'll be getting it? (Mailed or DL)
