But van, does it do this if the targeted ship is in RANGE but not in the ARC? Because that is the real question of this, will the Kol use its beams offensively if the enemy unit is in the weapons range but not in their targeting arc..?

I sort of like this idea, could also work with capital ships, or all ships as well... Ifthere are combat ships in your system much less capital ships, jewels of the empires navy, im sure the system would feel some love lol
Dont like the idea, simple as that. If you want this maybe mod it into your own game then share the mod for people who are interested in this kind of thing? Reason i don't like it is because It forces games to become too long and sticks you in the stone age for HOURS by the original example to get to tear 4 you would have to wait approximately 16 HOURS!!!!
It said civilian ship DESIGNS were converted for military use because they had no use for military
I would like the idea of the cruise ships being spawned from broadcast centers, there is also the idea of orbital taxis, ships going from those little stations above a planet to the different stations you build that can be blown up to reduce a planets population or infrastructure?
lol @ lordkosc's statment But i think orbital mechanics would be ALOT of fun if the AI could use it well instead of making the player plan it all out then introduce it first in a tutorial so people arnt blindsided by the idea lol
and if the AI wasnt aware of the fact that the smaller shipswere supposed to be traveling with a large group and run ahead of everything else
No, a gunboat of the WW2 era is equivilant to the fighters of Sins, the frigates are comparable to...frigates get it? lol frigates are frigates, cruisers are cruisers, carriers are carriercs...fighters are the gunboats and the bombers are the torpedo boats. So it all still works with that analogy
which is why ships slingshoting around suns planets and roids would have been a great idea lol
You know, i would really like to see this, though maybe at the very top of the military AND civil tech tees
hehe i could still see ships firing at 1000 miles away and landing a lucky shot
Another thing think that is needed to improve SOME tactics on a slightly larger scale would be by giving damage bonuses to EVERYTHING closer to the rear of the ship because, lets face it, if you get a gauss shell or rocket up an engine port on a ship, that ship is going to be in trouble....and as ships stop when they start to fight (don't know why they just do lol) that kind of thing could work. Though that is a good point, we dont know WHAT fighters are packing, hell the could be packi
Ok good i wasnt imagining things! lol wait... *has velcro on his shoes* lol But anyway i think it would be greatto bring it back maybe for one beta test and see how people like it, it would be great even if itwas only arounthe stars of a system as they are somewhat larger of a battlefeild than the other smaller fields
I remember reading in PC gamer (i think that was it) that ships wouldeven use a planet or 'roids natural gravity wellto slingshot themselves aroundto try andcatch a fleeing oponent? was this idea scraped, is itstill planed, or am i imagining things? 0.0
Well, in this game there is really no "Guy with a pistol" you have ships, the smallest of which are fighters, and depending on the direction of the fighters movment (presumably forward ) the shots it fires gain that much acceleration atthe start, not to mentiontheir acceleration from the guass or chemical shots that launch them, and i can see these little pot shots as you call them draining sheilds easi
Karma, i believe he asks because if you are not a beta tester for this particular game you may have less experience with it than those who have been testing it from beta one and have more experience with the ships and weapons at our fingertips.
Hmmm i lkethis idea, butthere would have to besomething to mae the guass cannon still worth having, maybe throw an upgrade to it to allowa flak cannon. I really like this idea but i could see it making Guass cannons practacly obsolite if you make it too easy to obtain, but who knows, this may be a structure like they already have planned for future versions ofthe game or for other races
Though i suppose it would be tolerable if the officer idea you mentoioned was implamented and could smart target the enemy ships with the coreect counter, but then whats the point, why not just leave it the way it is and skip the middle man? You neither want nor respect the idea of tactics in an RTS game then... Which fine... though I will point out that in that case you'd probably be better served by a turn based strat
Create harder counters for various ships. That is some ships should be completely DOMINATED by a bomber attack, some should COMPLETELY dominate against fighters/bombers, some ships should be destroyed very easily by missiles, some should be almost invulnerable to missiles, etc. That will force players to pay attention to which ships are attacking which ships. As it stands it doesn't really matter. Hard counters force players to start thinking tactically. <br
attachment to any one LINESHIP would be annoying and detracting yes, but this is the FLAGSHIP, as thetraviler said. It is YOUR embodiment in this game. and only having ONE for each race wont be as distracting. And once that ship is gone, oh well no more distracting. And the flagships still would not be hard pressed to die, a good player with enough bombers can down one EASY.
Exactly! something to worry about BEHIND your lines!
Actualy i didnt have a massive bounty, they tried to pass through one of my systems on the way to somewherre else, and i had to wreck them up because i had a jump inhibitor that they wanted to kill first lol. But that is aside the point, it doesnt make sense for pirates to MASS ATTACK an actual empire. Pirates are supposed to have a degree of tact and stealth to their actions, not just blunt force raids
Well, you can go ahead and mention it again? please? lol
THe way i look at it the Kol is the Battlecruiser while the Mazura (or what ever the HGUE dreadnaught is) is more of a true battleship.
OK, so while playing this game [And then X3 reunion] i got a thought, what is the motivation behind these pirates...and why do they have nukes to blow up planets? Personally i think pirates would want lighter faster ships with jump inhibitor nullifiers [like the ones the scouts get at later tech levels] and boarding ships...This leads to my idea. Pirates should go on OBJECTIVE raids...not what they do now which basically just throws a mass of ships to try and wreck up a joint,
