Learning to keep the AI off your back when you have a weaker military is a key part of moving up the difficulty chain. You can do it diplomatically by using their strenght against them. Rather than giving them things as gifts - look for a strong civ and bribe it to declare war on a civ that slightly weaker, or a couple of weak civs. You want to civ you're bribing to get into a war that will result in a stalemate. Congratulations, Snark! Just wanted to say thanks to KP and the rest of you for all of the tips/hints on the GalCore. Thanks for the help. Posted two games this weekend, I haven't had any additional problems - I just retire in the first couple of rounds to make sure the game will submit before playing it out. I am amazed by those that can beat this game at Sucidial on the largest galaxy sizes. Thanks for the welcome! I'm going to start another metaverse game soon and see what happens. I'm enjoying the campaign at apocalypse right now on 'crippling' so it's a good way to work up the difficulty levels. Hello, I just starting playing Galactic Civ 2 - I played the original for very long time so I'm used to submitting games to the Metaverse. I started a Metaverse game and won it today -- and when I got my score the game just exited as if I were playing a non-Metaverse game. Cypher Pax returning for duty, formerly of the Special Forces and GROSS. I'm currently downloading the demo, and assuming it runs acceptably on my laptop I'll be back in business with the real thing... What's up with empires in this game? I'm currently playing my first gigantic game and it's a eye-opener. Generally, I have the game wrapped up by the time I get Dreadnoughts. I moved down a level of difficulty to Tough (only leaving the Yor at Intelligent) and I'm getting a pretty good run for my money. Everyone ended up with 40+ systems except for the Yor who mangaged to grab 4 systems (The Alexians got 3 in comparison and much better systems at that). Anyway, it's been a lot of fun. From a architects prospective, I found article you referenced dead on. A good design can be implemented successfully on either a Micosoft platform or a Linux / J2EE platform. I know -- I am in the strange position of designing for both. For an expense position, it seems ludicrous to argue that Microsoft server-side development is less expensive or as extensible.
