I don't see what makes her opinion any less valid than yours, especially when she dealt with them on a regular basis. Right, so perhaps she's to close to the problem, which is what the example of my sister was meant to illustrate. I'm not saying that people on welfare are/are not looking for a j

::sighs:: Last I checked it was still constitutionally protected free speech to burn a flag. And well it should be, the flag which I honor and respect as a symbol of our nation, is a symbol. Thus the burning of the flag is a symbol. A symbol that someone disagrees with the way that the nation is heading. So, whether he's hiding it... ::shrugs:: Since a majority of americans do not support flag burning p
Ah yes, in her opinion is the operative phrase. My sister used to work for Child services and 75% of the people she dealt with were child molesters or child abusers. Would it be fair to say that all parents are child molesters or child abusers?
I thought everyone should have a look at this. Link
Oh, and I've come into contact with a lot of homeless people, and barring the mentally ill, who should be taken care of and not left out on the street, the ones I've met would generally rather be working.
just as progressives wont vote for kerry And pray tell who would the progressives vote for if Kerry wins the nomination? Measure 30 needs to pass by the way, or else the entire state support structure collapses (see other of my posts in other places) Cheers
It will be possible to overcome those biases though yes?
Wait a second. I think we can agree with the fact that the Nazis were committing acts of Genocide while a war was going on. I think what you're trying to do is group civilians in with combatants, which was not the case. Therefore I can "have it both ways" Cheers
The stats say that but having traveled a great deal and seen a lot of homeless people, my experience bears that out. And my experience differs. Shall we agree to disagree with that? Cheers
Absolutely right Brad, I think Messy and I can stop beating a dead horse
Didn't say you were Brad, that was aimed at Frogboy, also to defend myself from your first quote I was referring to specifically American actions
Alright then, read Howard Zinn, and then look at the biases of these other books you're reading. Make up your own mind, that's the only thing you can do after all. And don't assume that someone who has a different opinion then you hasn't read something in their life. I believe your opinion is wrong, and you believe mine is wrong, but once again don't insult me an
Reply #10 By: Lunaticus Minimus - 1/2/2004 2:02:30 PM Wait wait wait, you're all overlooking an important definition of homelessness. Are they on welfare due to necessity, or choice? Are they unemployed due to circumstances or "fate" ? (i.e., given up hope of ever becoming upwar
There are millions of American indians who exist There are also millions of Jewish people who exist, are you therefore arguing that the holocaust wasn't genocide?
Of course even if it wasn't staged, Franken could afford to pay off the man he tackled and thus avoid any legal action
I had a question about the game relating to state bias. For instance, it's very difficult for a democrat to win in states like Oklahoma, and similarly it's easier for a democrat to win Oregon. Will such biases be factored into the final game?
Even if he does, or perhaps I should especially if he does walk the walk he's been talking since the beginning he won't get elected to the presidency because the moderates won't vote for him Cheers
I concur, how many first hand accounts have you read about the revolutionary war? and how many do you think Howard Zinn has read? We historians, even those of us with PhDs do read primary sources. If all you've done is read history books that cite these primary sources, then you do no better than someone who's read Dr. Zinn. You've actually done worse than Dr. Z
I highly doubt that Howard Zinn knows more about the Revoluntionary War than those who fought in it Ahhah! So, we have with us in this honored assemblage a genuine veteran of the Revolutionary War! Thanks Messy Buu for clearing that up Cheers
The United States did not exterminate the American Indians. There are millions of American indians who exist. Please feel free to provide examples of goverment sponsered programs of genocide to the American indians? Hint: The trail of tears is not genocide You are absolutely right Frogboy, unfortunately
My reading of it has been that while taxes weren't the exclusive reason, they were certainly a major issue Now, if my reading Howard Zinn, who is by the way a highly respected historian, is inadmissable, surely a high school history text book is inadmissable. It was, just as it is now, all about spin.
Alright then let me put it this way to show some who are unwilling to read all the posts why I think there is a fight being picked here. I was clarifying what I thought was an incorrect statement on Brad's part. Brad and I have now gone back and forth a few times, with him willing to admit there was a civil war going on. That's all I wanted. However, while Brad is right that I could say the same thing about Iraq and the kurds, it is not what
Actually they call it Reganomics because he espoused the idea of a trickle down economy and presided over the collapse of the S&Ls. Just out of curiousity were you even alive during the Regan administration Occultpizza?
A series of events. Though taxes played a role in exciting the masses, it was also due to the fact that the British were limiting expansion westward, the reduction and elimination of the powers of the New England Commonwealth, the cooling attitudes toward slavery in the British empire, shall I go on Jill? Cheers
::laughs:: As an adjunct professor of history, I have read things other than those two books, or books of similar titles. No taxation without representation were good rallying cries, but were not, ultimately, the cause of the Revolutionary war.
