My city was attacked twice in a turn. First time my 2 archers, soldier and a hero survived. Next attack, my archers had disappeared. Bad news for me, by the way :) bw

They are not quite the same. The 2nd one requires metal to recruit. Note the different stats on the two. However, the stats do seem odd on the second one (Combat rating is 11 as opposed to 10, but Hit Points are way lower on the one needing metal). So something does seem amiss.

Yes - Impinc is correct - I could not equip any weapon.

Got Giott the Crossbowman. Unequipped his crossbow (don't ask). Then was unable to re-equip it. Error was that it was a two-handed weapon. (!) This occurred even when he had nothing else at all equipped.
