So how do caravans work, how do you make road from one city to another using them and whats the advantage of using them?

Yea, I kind of liked the way Civ4 did it, allowing you to upgarde older units when you recieved new tech. Thus making exp worth something as you progressed.

I just got new type of soldier, better stats and better weapon, is there anyway to upgrade my older soldiers to these newer and better soldier?

I asked about getting all the spell books in a different post and got some great feedback and now I was hoping I might get some more help in building my sovereign. For example, which trats do you like, which stats do you bump up, which faction do you like? Any and all thoughts or opinions on building my sovereign would be appreciated.
