After encountering a few AI players in my first playthrough I attempted to buy some tech off of them. I was surprised that they don't have discrete technologies listed but rather numbers next to the "fields" of research. I was further surprised when after buying them from the AI my technology didn't seem to improve. Is there something I'm missing here or does this give no benefit at all?
