There was a big screwup somewhere between Kerberos and Steam. An older beta version was made available for download instead of the actual release day version. Kerberos has a new build uploaded, and it's supposed to be available shortly. It might be worth waiting a few days, just to get the initial patches out of the way. That said, Kerberos has a terrific record of supporting SOTS1 with both bugfixes and new features for years after the release, not just right af

So if you're releasing "updates"... does that mean you guys actually have the original TA source code available? It seems like it would be awfully hard to modify multiplayer and integrate Impulse Reactor if you didn't. Because if you really do have access to the TA source, there's a whole lot of tweaks the TA community would love to have made to the game engine.

Erm... maybe try waiting a bit longer before you declare that it'll never be possible to do what you want? The game's only been out for just over two weeks! Show some patience. Besides, even if the current mod package isn't exactly what you had in mind, it's a whole lot better than nothing. Blair's post said that it's "an incomplete "beta-ish" version of the mod materials". Does that mean they're releasing source code later? No. But it does sound like there's more on the wa

Hrmph... I'm pretty sure we could just copy 'n paste most of the replies in the "Stuff to put in 1.03" thread. Somehow, it very quickly turned into "Let's list every possible addition we can think of", rather than "Here's a couple of things you can conceivably tweak in the three weeks you're working on the patch". Grrr. Anyway, an expansion would be the logical place to ask for a campaign or extra factions. Doesn't mean it's going to happen, but it's at least a more reasonable

To combine what they said: * Any resource asteroid that's in a colonizable system is handled by selecting the colony, clicking the Logistics structure button, and building extractors (the two leftmost buttons). * Any resource asteroid that's in a NON-colonizable system (space junk, gas giant, asteroid belt) should have an invulnerable extractor already built. You have to capture that extractor to make use of it. For TEC and Advent, the colony frigate has the capture ability,

Select the planet and click the planet upgrades button (it's the upper left green icon in the actions section). Upgrade Logistics is the lower left button in the next menu.

I'm afraid that with 550+ posts in this thread, any suggestions I make will get lost (or have already been mentioned). But, I'll give it a shot anyway. For the single-player game, I feel the AI's biggest weakness so far is a complete lack of concern for protecting its planets. Not only does it not place many turrets, but any time I start hitting one of its fleets, it abandons the system. I understand the idea of not wanting to lose your whole fleet, but abandoning your HOMEWORLD?

For what it's worth, I'm running this game on a 3-year old laptop that's 1.4GHZ with a 32MB ATI video card - and it runs fine. Sure, I've got all the graphics at their lowest settings, but it runs reasonably well. I'd bet it'll at least run for you.

And in contrast to that, I'd like to thank Ironclad/Stardock for creating a game that, believe it or not, runs well at less than the minimum requirements!. And boy, am I thankful. My current laptop's got a bad video card and is off getting fixed, so I'm stuck with my old one for now. It's not bad, but definitely below the min reqs listed: 1.4GHZ, 32MB ATI card. And believe it or not, the game actually runs fine. Sure, I had to turn down every graphics setting to "Lowest", but the imp

Sounds good to me. Also, I can think of a couple improvements to the research page. It'd be nice if the infocard could show up in the upper-right when you're mousing over items in the bottom-right. Otherwise, it's sitting on top of the stuff you're trying to look at. Also, I'd love to have a visible display of your queued research items. I've often got several things queued up and it's annoying to have to scan both research pages for the little yellow highlighting that indicates the active

I've been waiting for Windowblinds 4 to come out, mostly because I get a bit tired of seeing the old dull gray look on my nice bright WinXP box. Unfortunately, there's a bit of a problem. I actually like the default WinXP skin. Yeah, the blue one called Luna with the blue scrollbars and shiny white buttons. Since Windows itself doesn't skin all programs with the new look but Windowblinds can, I've decided that my best bet for getting all my programs to share the blue look is to actually use
