Further to this, after I posted the above I got an email from Patrick Ford at your company who said he thinks he's identified and rectified the problem. Which, apparently, is the case. -P.

Yarlen, whatever you guys did to test, apparently has cleared up the problem. When I logged in this morning (NZ time) I found that the purchase of Atlantis Quest had completed while I was logged off overnight(?!?). I did as you suggested and cleared the Mozilla cache and cookies, turned my firewall off on the pc (I have a hardware firewall/router also) and I could complete the pre-order of the Galciv 2 expansion without a problem. To test further, I then switc

I've been trying to buy some games for days, and I always get the same error message when I click on the 'nnn tokens' button: *** The page you have requested has experienced and error and cannot be processed due to the following error: Error: Error while writing encrypted data to the stream: \nInvalid length for a Base-64 char array. This has been going on for 3 days now, an email to support got no reply, and email to sales got a message back 'that is really strange'. Very

If you want to join the tech trading frenzy with the AI and capitalize, fine. I don't want to play that kind of game. Actually, I was explaining how I do NOT enter into any kind of tech trading frenzy. I will grant you one thing: the AI all either use the same research

I've no problem of this nature. By mid game I way out-tech the AI on normal and hard setting. Haven't tried insane difficulties yet. I start by getting my economy and research facilities up. Then I research economy and research and production. Meanwhile the AI are concentrating on weaponry and maybe trading it. Considering how much they usually want for mil tech, I don't trade(buy) these. Later, I find that I will meet the minors, and

I tend to go for universal translators first, followed by drives until I get the first general speed increase, after that I go for increased research and manufacturing for some time. Little point in getting way ahead of what your planets can realistically build, but researching industry also helps with mining star base modules. After that 1 influence tech, then sensors,shields/weapons. It's good if you can get the Translator and the Hull Plating wonder

Tooltips: yes, they are awful looking and hard to read. Some tooltips on the main screen also do not time out even when you have long since gone off doing something else (workaround: move mouse cursor to bottom edge of screen will clear them) I had tooltips turned off for this reason, but then I don't have tooltips in the ship builder either where they are necessary to identify what components you have installed on a design (same i

More [features]: I've played the campaign for a bit. Twice so far the [next turn] button has disappeared on me. At that point I can only get to the menu via mouse, nothing else seems to do anything (In GalCiv 1, when this happened, hitting [space] or [enter] often fixed it - here it doesn't) Reloading seems to be the only solution. Once I saved a game in which near all of my ships were heading towards a rally point. Af

Other text boxes are also seriously bollixed. Trying to use or cursor keys in the ship design name box, or in the campaign startup [name] box produces unexpected garbled output. Notably a 'y' with two dots above. Cursor right does advance the cursor all right, but also inserts a garbage character at the same time. Nor can I use the mouse in text boxes to position the cursor. Backspace is the only key that works for deleting

I had the exact problem as DocDVD with the ship design screen - clicked on 'save', no visible response, tried to close screen and got warning, after closing screen anyway the file requester popped up and subsequently the game crashed to desktop. I would also like to point out that the text

It is my impression also that, since a few revisions back, the 'abundand habitable planets' setting no longer is connected to the map generator. I have tried different settings and map sizes but, on the whole, all maps seem to be pretty arid regardless -- typically I play on huge or large maps with rare starsystems, and I've had to build several starbases just to reach one habitable planet a couple of times. Seems odd. Another thing I've noted is, that since the previous Galciv2 updat

Anybody played around with the shipyard? That makes least sense to me so far. I played a custom race, and they never got any ship hulls in their shipyard at all, never mind what I researched (a lot). I've played some other races, and only get up to medium hulls, even after researching large scale building etc. Some tech says it enables battlecruisers, or survey ships, or battleships but no default designs become available, no change to hull availability. I've

Well, I got it fixed. I archived Galciv 2 from SDC, then uninstalled it from SDC and got the error message that it could not be uninstalled and did I want to mark it as uninstalled. I agreed to do that, then reinstalled from archive. I reinstalled to a different directory on a different partition. SDC automatically did the activation for me. I had NOT changed serial number or email address at any stage - it had all the valid info the first time rou

I am afraid the activation does not work for me either. I enter my valid email, and TGN serial ( I tried my download Galciv1 number as well, by mistake) and the activation fails. I have instructed firewall to allow activate.exe access to the internet. For some reason it wants to try and connect through my web-proxy-filter (Proxomitron). I normally have SDC set up to use that, and have no problems logging onto SDC that way (it used to fail on direc

I would also support bringing up the colony screen right away. A very viable alternative would be to have a default build queue a'la governor as in GC1 .... but I guess that would be a mite difficult trying to optimize the bonus squares on the surface. However, I am amazed you guys seem to manage colonizing at all. On my system the game crashes almost without fail when I try to colonize a planet. I

I am not having much luck at all so far. Playing the .12b beta on a system comprising Abit NF7-s V.2.0 mobo, Barton XP chip in the vicinity of 2 Ghz, 1 Gb Crucial Ram, Radeon 9600 XT video card. Basically, the game crashes to desktop every time I try to found another colony immediately after I hit the return key on the 'naming planet' requester. I think this did not happen once out of about 7 or 8 tries so far. I once had the 'turn' button

After I found out what was missing, I managed to merge the missing keys back into my registry. It was the hkey_local_machine/software/stardock/drengin.net/ hierarchy that I restored. (fortunately I had made backups before scrubbing the registry). Altarian Prophecy now runs happily again, and so does SDCentral recognize my Galciv installation S

Jake, I just did some double-checking with the registry, and what registry keys I had saved out. It seems I managed to delete the key for Galciv. Galciv itself will run fine, but Altarian Prophecy now complains that I must have Galciv 1.2 installed for it to run - seems I will have to get the keys for Galciv restored somehow by the same token, SDCentral does not list Altarian Prophecy as installed, either ..... -Peter

Jake, I am using the latest version of SDCentral that is available via auto-update. When I said I reinstalled I was referring to SDCentral. At one point, after autoupdating, it no longer logged in (that error 1001) and when I tried to restore to an earlier version I messed up and somehow managed to botch every thing up pretty badly, which meand I had to wipe SDCentral, I cleaned the registry, and redownloaded - I think it was version 2, buil

I had a bad crash of my SDCentral setup a while back. I ended up wiping everything and reinstalling from scratch. Unfortunately, the program no longer knows about all the software I have installed, e.g. Galciv and A.P. expansion. Is there any way I can get SDCentral to recognize what I have installed, and what version - so the online update will start working again? (somehow I seem to think that it actually used to do that, automatically, way way bac

Not strictly on topic, but sorta: I had to reinstall SDCentral recently because 2.00.294 didn't want to log in properly, and things got a little messy. Now, since I did a total wipe and reinstall, including registry keys, SDCentral is no longer aware of what games I have installed on my machine (that is, I have Galciv from way back, the expansion recently acquired and also TCM), so it no longer does version checking. Is there any way I can bring SDCenr

First to SDCentral: I still cannot log on with the new 2.00.294 - reinstalled 1.3 but that would not update to 2.00.294 (aborts half way through) nor will it download Disciples II (gives http error -8 after downloading the xml file). I then downloaded SDCentral from Stardock (v.2.00.293) and am currently running that again. I am by now 395 MB into downloading Disciples II. I have developed thi

I just tried to log in with StardockCentral again. SDCentral connected and updated to version .294 - restarted and now I can no longer log in. Aw shucks (getting connection error 1001) . SDCentral makes the connection to wingate all right ( I use wingate as a proxy to get around the firewall problems SDCentral has and up to now it's always worked fine. Maybe your server has just become unavailable. I retried the download anyway, and so

Jake, thanks for the reply. It's good to see someone actually reads this and that some thing is being done. Considerably lessens the frustration factor Now to matters on hand: I am running 2.00.293 build 58 of SDCentral. I am afraid I cannot send you the logfile - I think I must've cleaned it out with the rest of the temporary files after installa
