I see. Yeah they were beating up on eachother for a long time. I picked the weaker and stomped them in about 5 minutes. They'd ground eachother down to nothing while I had a huge upgraded fleet. Once I killed one of them the game ended. Thanks.

This is probably a rather dumb question, but there is no section in the manual that describes victory conditions. That strikes me as a dubious choice for a manual, but anyway... I assume there is no section of the manual talking about victory conditions because the primary one is "kill everybody else". But in my current game I've eliminated one faction and have 100% relations and all the treaties with the other two. Is there no such thing as a diplomatic victory?

Thanks. Hopefully people will update their mods when the non-beta patch is released. The little pew-pew-pew pellet guns my captal ships fire makes me laugh now that I've seen youtube video of the guns after the graphics mod. It's like watching an Iowa class battleship fire a spitball.

As a new Sins player, I'm torn as to what to do. I want to play with the latest version as it is supposed to greatly improve the AI and balance, but I also want to play with some of the great mods that I've seen people praise, like Sins Plus for the extra planet types and Bailknight's graphics mod, but they don't work with the new patches. Would you guys recommend a new player play an old version with the mods or the new version without the mods?

I've been playing Sins for a few days now and something really annoying keeps happening. I keep having to change the keymapping over and over because every time I quit the game and restart, any changes I have made to the settings are lost. Additionally, the game still reports that I have 0% achievements even though I've gotten messages that I received quite a few achievements over the last few games. It seems like data that should be saved is lost every time I quit the game.

Am I wrong in believing you are better off buidling farms to boost the population than building market centers so long as you can keep morale under control? The increased tax from a higher population is higher than the increased tax from a market center, yes? Has anyone crunched the numbers to see how much your tax goes up for each billion people? That would make it simple to determine if you're better off building a farm or a market cente

I agree that it makes sense with only a military/social split, Hykin. Your factories have a certain capacity and you have to decide how much of the factories to use for which type of production. But, since it appears my understanding is correct, I think it completely falls apart when you add in research. If I'm pulling in 500 bc/turn, why in heck can't I max out my spending if I have the capacity? It seems to me this leads to stupid results; If I have the capacity for 200/turn in

An addendum to my post: If my understanding is correct, it seems like the only way to effectively manage your economy is to massively overproduce capacity. If I have the capacity to spend 300/turn on military and social each and the capacity to spend 100/turn on research, and my income is 500/turn... I can't max out research without cutting spending on the other two sliders to 0%, despite having the income to spend 200/turn each on military and socia

So my understanding is that the economy sliders don't meant "spend this percentage of my income on military/social/research" but rather "use this percentage of my M/S/R capacity". Is that correct? And, if so, doesn't that mean there is no way to use most of your capacity? Let me give an example with completely made up nonsensical numbers: Suppose you have capacity to use 100 BC per turn in each of military, social, and research productio

As far as I can tell by loading a game from before I researched the Neutrality Learning tech and then looking at a game from afterwards, there was no bonus of any sort. It looks like a dead tech to me unless I'm missing something. I'm giving up trying to build the centers, I can't figure it out.

Would someone explain how to build a Neutrality Learning Center? I'm currently in the middle of a game and researched Xeno Ethics, choosing the Neutral option. My next step was to research the Neutrality Learning Centers which are supposed to be an excellent research building. But I can find no option on my planet screens for building this improvement; neither upgrading existing research centers nor building a new improvement lists it as an option.

Can someone explain precisely how influence starbases function? I'm trying to determine whether culture spreads faster by putting influence starbases around my planets or along my cultural borders. I'm not sure where to place them to be most effective.

I'll run multiple tests myself. I did one test and it was inconclusive; most of the AI colony ships were clearly traveling to planets that scouts had seen. One colony ship went to a planet that a scout did not see, but it may have been innocuous. Will run more later to confirm one or the other.

I'd like to see an analysis of the monetary effects of adding either a farm or another economy bonus building to a planet with a bunch of economic booster buildings. Will you make more money by raising the population than by adding another banking center or whatever if you already have a couple in place?

Thats what I thought, about having to be "close" or better to ally. Now how the hell do you get your relations to "close"? In my current game, I'm trying to ally with the Altairans. Our diplomatic relations have been "Friendly" for ages. When I look at the factors affecting our relations, there are 7 or 8 pluses and no minuses, but nothing improves our relations above Friendly.

10 Replies 7,749 Views

You allied with them while relations were WARM? How do you get the option to come up? I'm at friendly with a bunch of people and I never get an option to offer an alliance.

10 Replies 7,749 Views

My guess is that your relations have to be better than "friendly" to start an alliance. But I have no idea how to get your relations better than friendly; I posted about it yesterday and nobody else seemed to know either. No matter what I do, how many gifts I give, etc, I can't make my relations go up high enough to form an alliance. Has anyone successfully allied with another race? If so, how?

10 Replies 7,749 Views

I don't know, arstal. I've given all sorts of gifts; cash, influence, techs, etc and the relationship has never budged an inch. I can't get my relations above Friendly no matter what I do.

I'm trying to win my current game via Alliance victory... at least alliances with the non-evil races, since relations with the Yor Collective appear headed into the toilet. But I can't seem to get relations above "Friendly" no matter what I do. I've got ++ for trading, + for ethical alignment, + for military, and so on with a few races but nothing I do budges them towards forming an alliance. Giving them gifts doesn't appear to make a difference.<br
