Hi, I'm trying to locate some of my old buddies from Galciv1. I'm currently beta-testing Nexus War, http://nexuswar.com, a browser MMORPG, and would like to revive those role-playing days we had during GC1 with you guys over at NW. If you are keen, PM me (RayWanderer) at the NX forums http://forums.nexuswar.com Cheers, Ray

Hi BK, Galciv is definitely closer to Civ than Rise of Nations. You build stuff on your planets and you move them on a grid like space like a board game. It is turn-based and not real time. I believe the demo should still be online at places like Gamespot or Download.com so I strongly advise you to check that out first. Cheers, Ray Url for Galciv demo at Download: http://www.download.com/3000-2119-10204231.html?tag=lst-0-1 Edit: One thing to n

I know I've played either Battle Isle or Battle Isle 2 (and History Line IIRC) from Bluebyte and I did enjoy it. Like you said, it's like a chess/puzzle game. I seem to recall that on some maps, you need to make a particular move with a particular unit to crack that map. Yeah, "artificial intelligenge" is rather limited at the moment so my expectations aren't that high. I had a lot of fun recently with Romance of the Three Kingdoms IX from Koei (only available in Chine

There isn't any automatic/neural learning by the game from the metaverse submissions but like some have pointed out, it's the developers who are learning. When your game is submitted, information about your game such as the map played, tech order chosen (and other stuff which I don't know) are submitted so they use this info to tweak the AI to respond better to various player tactics or cheese. We saw quite a lot of this tweaking when the game was still pretty new. ~S

Hello all old-timers! Was thinking my question should probably go into a separate thread but I don't think you guys will mind. Which of your turn-based strategy favourites have really impressed u with respect to AI? I'm going to replay GC but are there other TBS strat games that have outstanding AI?
And hence, we now have TotalGaming.net! We've got a pretty good line-up of games to start with: Galactic Civilizations Galactic Civilizations: Altarian Prophecy The Political Machine The Corporate Machine Celtic Kings O.R.B. Disciples II: Ultimate Edition And a couple of smaller games. If you were to buy these games on their own, even at "bargain bin" prices you would still be paying around $150 whereas a TotalGaming.net subsc

If you are looking for a highly rated turn-based space strategy game with can be played online for 30-45mins per session, I strongly recommend Star Chamber www.starchamber.net

I'm also very curious as to which game will appear next on TG.net. Is there anything that can be shared with us at this moment, Stardock?

This FAQ was prepared many months back. Hope it is still accurate, but is should give you an idea.
A question arose over why some Metaverse scores were higher than others. Ray the Wanderer explained how game scores are adjusted by the Metaverse. Here is his explanation: The key reason behind this disparity in scores is the monthly block effect. For you, all your games are still in one 30-day monthly block. So the basic formula of total number of points divided b
Ray, I'm not sure how to answer that. Of course the AI will be able to handle these things. What other answer would it be?
The AI would undoubtably be able to do all those at a certain level but as alluded to in my last sentence, I hoping to see AI that surpasses that of Galciv 1. If we can get even better AI than Galciv 1 with all these additional layers of complexity added, I'll be over the moon. :) ~SDC~

Sounds very promising. :) Looking forward to taking part in the open beta. The only thing I worry about is that with the increase in the number of variables, it will be tougher to come out with a challenging AI without relying on giving them bonuses. Will the AI be able to: 1) Manage fleets effectively for both offense and defense 2) Produce good ship designs to cope with opponents 3) Navigate through space intelligently with the new terrain 4) Deal wit
