[quote who="Nenjin" reply="158" id="2980678"] Buying gold/items/accounts on a third party market is what causes that market to exist, which is what motivates account hackers. Access to private user data is what motivates them; credit cards and passwords to email accounts are just as valuable as login data to their favorite MMO. It reads like you're trying to use hackers as a complete explanation for the rise of the AH in D3 and I think it has less to do with it ultim

I'm generally very against the cash AH for many reasons. However when it comes to Chinese gold/item farmers I consider this to be very bad news for them rather then good. With everyone having the ability to sell items for cash, I anticipate that the influx of items is going to dramatically drive prices down to the point where they just are not worth the effort to sell professionally by even the poorest standards. Even as it stands now, The rate of return for gold selling in WoW is so low

I was initially quite skeptical about this game and the PC gamer review. However I've seen a lot of people praise the leaked build, including people who normally make it a point to hate evertyhing. So that's enough that I will probably give it a try. Deus Ex was one of my favorite games of all time. Deus Ex 2 I obviously was not so impressed by, it wasn't all bad but I especially hated the generic ammo part. I want to be able to fire a few shots with a rocket launcher

My biggest complaint about the game is the interface, which is mind numbingly poor. Beyond that though the storyline does grab me and pull me in, perhaps not as well as the first game but still better then many games. Witcher 1 had plenty of issues as well which I was willing to overlook for the story.

Someone doesn't go "oops, my parking permit verification server went down, you're not allowed to park here today because I think you're a poacher, but that actual poacher still can." Of course, that DOES happen with games all the time. When the pirate version is superior in functionality to the commercial version because it works more often, you'

I always had mixed feelings about that because it made it hard to tell what was actually new and what was just something that had been bumped up for the 20th time after a minor update.

Well I've definitely seen Gamestop (and other stores as well) keep the CD outside the box for games. I suspect that they do it as an anti-theft deterrent. I've never had a problem with CD damage though. The idea that employees take them home and play with them though is something that I suspect is purely speculation on akerous' part. I mean you never know when someone will steal or break the rules so it could happen. But I'm pretty sure it's not something which is

Repurposing 1 hat/dress/roll cage/whatever isn't worth the effort. Repurposing the entire team dedicated to making the large amount of hats could do some good. Let's say they spent $2000 on the salary of the artists who created everything. Now lets say the never did that, and have $2000 from t

We (and by we, I me I and everyone else in the world, but probably just me) are complaining that they took the time to add dress-up to the game at all. While I have no interest in buying games to speed up the release of Portal, I can say that one of the games on the list (Wonderful End of the World) is pretty amazing, kind of like Katamari Damarci but much much cooler. If other indie games on the list are of equally high quality then some of those games might be worth checking out regardless of their tie to portals release.

The amiga is a defunct line of computers, and is different then the pc or the mac. It certainly would not run on a pc on it's own, but you might be able to download an emulator or something like that. I was inspired to look up perehelion myself which seemed interesting. Never played it back in the day. I saw it compared to Black Crypt which I did play. I seem to vaguely remember some very fond memories about that game, but I can't remember much beyond that.

Like Tidus said, I'm not sure that the percentage of people who hated Steam is enough of a market share to go worry about, especially given that many of them hate any form of DRM or digital download service and will reject Impulse no matter what form it takes. And I agree that it would have been far worse if Impulse had been sold to Steam to cement their monopoly. I used to like Gamestop back in the day, but like many people I don't really like going there any more if I can po

I kind of like that Impulse doesn't autopatch too. I like to know when there's a major update for one of my games that I haven't played in awhile. If it gets autopatched I may never realize that it has been changed.

I think Gothic 2 is the most all around solid of the games mentioned so far, though it's also a bit of a "safe" pick with nothing that exceptionally stands out about it. I've always marginally prefered Impulse myself, not by any significant amount but enough to buy games from it over Steam. But Steam doesn't bother me either and I'm happy to buy from them as well. So this news doesn't really bother me too much, in the worst case scenario the competition will spur Steam to be better and I'll just buy from them intead.
