Ok so what happens if you spend as much as ya would on a AAA game on a 'middle class' game like E:FE spending your resources on ai,depth,story-and such while keeping the graphics the same quality as they are? The game could turn out soooo good & the rarity of such a game could really do wounders for sales.
Then you made a AAA game that likely won't sell very well as marketing will have a

One thing to consider, in a post World of Warcraft era, many more modders already know Lua than know Python (Civ 4 being the biggest major moddable title that used Python that I am aware of - even Civ 5 switched to Lua).
Sorry, but I'm calling BS on that one. You may be able to represent a hex grid in a 2-D array--just not a 2-D array of squares.
Sure you can.
I prefer the gamer reviews over journalists . Recently saw a new game review at GameSpot, “Super Meat Boy”, Game Reviewer score 90+, users score 63, and the game did look (visually at least) like an average game.
Well, in this case you are missing out on one of the best platformers in long time. The Game Reviewer score was dead on IMHO.

Hexes give you six equidistant directions. Squares give 4 if you only allow cardinal directions (most of the "Tactics" games on consoles use this convention). Squares give 8 if you allow diagonal movement. This introduces problems. You need to compensate for the fact that diagonal movement is faster then (or not like Civ).
The Steam version of Civ IV leaves out things you might want later, including the editor I think.
Spreading a little FUD, are we? The "Editor" for Civ4 is your favorite text editor. It uses xml files and python for nearly everything. To make maps, use the WorldBuilder which is built into the game.
the fact that consoles are now as graphically powerful[snip irrelevant parts]
I beg to differ, the so-called next gen consoles are no where near as powerful as a modern gaming rig PC. Maybe a gaming rig that's 2 years old, but they really aren't in the same league anymore.

I would recommend Armageddon Empires by Cryptic Comet. It isn't that old, but it should run on older machines just fine.
