Just to finish this off, in case anyone ever browses across this -what I wound up doing, that worked pretty well, was adopting these two simple rules: 1) no mage heroes. 2) don't take one of the 3 races that are melee-focused (Verga, Gilden, and I-forget). I wound up taking the one with the money bonus, led by General Carrodus.
I could also suggest watching some Let's Play videos on YouTube or something. There are quite a few good ones on there. I'd recommend watching some of Das's LP's. He does a very good job of explaining concepts and gameplay.
+1 - that's how I learned. It's " <span cl
This is running version 1.3 - I just had this happen. If you get the quest to tame ascian, but then trade the collar to a different hero, and then the _other_ hero uses the collar to tame ascian, what I'm seeing is that ascian gets tamed, and shows as one of your units, but cannot be moved - the orders have no effect. You _can_ tell ascian to 'explore', and off she goes, but otherwise you can't control her. [EDIT] confirmed that it's the hero-switchi
Thanks for the input! I already do "ironman" and the first generted location - I really like the idea of having no mage champions - I'll try that and see how it goes. BTW, what's the 'pioneer exploit'?
So I've just won my 3rd game at Challenging/Challenging, using different races and victories, and it was kindof a cakewalk each time. Does anyone have any suggestions for interesting/fun self-limitations, like - No magic of any type - no more than 1 hero per stack - never attack anyone weaker you get the idea - self-imposed limits that can make the game (truly) challenging, while still fun.
I found you still need _some_ army tech, as most (if not all) of the increased army size techs are in warfare. but otherwise, I'm playing a Pariden-based race and almost completely ignoring Warfare.
thanks for the tip - i've subscribed, enjoying it.
no, i'm talking about LH. the Maul debuff seems like a good idea.
Kinda late to the game here, but wanted to add one more aspect to this - I am playing a game now where I took beastmaster, and then made my sov a commander. If you take the accuracy bonuses on your commander, then creatures with maul (bears, and ascian if you can get him) become killing machines - they have something like 97% chance to hit, and with maul they kill many enemies in one interaction. I've had bears walk up to ogres and trolls and maul them to death in one go.<
