For my race I usually run Wraiths with Lucky, Master Scouts, Adepts for the extra starting mana, one more advantage (currently Enchanters, but it varies) and no ranged weapons. My sovereign starts with General (bonus xp), Air Disciple (evade & tutelage), Discipline, Brilliant, Wealthy, Might and Cruel. I've been considering dropping Might and something else (Wealthy, probably) for Water apprentice (Inspiration!). I research Charms first because I have terrible luck with items,

After a couple of Hard games I'm playing my first game on Expert difficulty, huge map, 10 opponents. I've never seen a sovereign out alone. I attacked Oracle Ceresa with my solo Sovereign (assassin/dodge build) and got my ass handed to me. I think Sovereign AI get extra traits at the higher difficulties. Very fun, and very terrifying. Definitely crank the difficulty up. I am nowhere near as confident about taking out the Sovereigns as I used to be.
1. I run my sovereign (fire mage) with Bacco as a bodyguard (axe, with cleave traits and heavy armour). They can clear out pretty much everything (especially if I get the ring of ash).
