Game crashing on New Game start in Bug Reports GalCiv2 Forums

I have the ultimate edition from steam. It worked fine for awhile but lately it crashes whenever I start a new game. I do all the set up stuff but then when the game loads it crashes. The weird part is the campaign still works fine as does going into the file folder and launching The Dread Lords as apposed to the full Ultimate Edition version.
