I couldn't expand to an area because it was crawling with dragons but the AI goes in and plops a city right next the dragon lairs and NEVER gets attacked. It's BS and the one thing I'd change about this game if I could.
That's actually a bug that's getting fixed in 1.3. According to Brad, it actually goes both ways; if you settle a city *right next* to a dragon lair that has a d

So, I tried playing the game for the first time since the last beta version, and in four games, I saw exactly zero "Weak" monster groups, every single nearby quest was "strong", and every single settleable "second city" spot was guarded by mobs that there's no way in hell to take out early game. Was I just incredibly unlucky, or did something actually change in map generation? if this is "normal" behavior, then this is pretty much totally unplayable. &n

Since metal is needed for every non-blunt trained troop that's worth anything, it needs to be pretty common.

Well, I somehow managed to pull an SoM win out of my ass in that Resoln game. The AI really should be more careful about accepting tribute. Kraxis could have at least slowed me down by taking my only air shard, had he not been dumb enough to accept tribute once the Forge was up.

It's only free if you couldn't have used the army space better somehow. And unless it's the first turn of the game, you probably could. Your fortress is going to pump out units at some point; might as well use the army space for something that isn't "one time negligible damage". Also, is there any way to see how long until you get another elemental from a shard once a city has overtaken the shard? I can't select the
Have you noticed that the main source of troops for Resoln are generated from their shard shrines and altars? The shard units are free from upkeep and if they die, you generate new ones automatically.
I've noticed that they get units from shards. I haven't noticed tho

I've seen people claim that this faction is the most fun in the game, but I really don't understand at all what they're supposed to do, other than just die horribly. I get that they're supposed to be the "weird units" faction, but those "weird units" are just blatantly worse than what the other factions can do. Summon Familiar is great if you've got a ton of mana, worthless otherwise, and the game insists on always placing it at the very front

For some reason, as Resoln, I can no longer cast summoning spells on the strategic map. I select it in the spellbook, hit "cast spell", and the spellbook closes and nothing happens. I have two free slots in my army, and I have enough mana to cast the spell.
The mistakes you point out the AI makes there might make a difference in a challenging game. But in a hard or later, that wouln't be the difference. There must be fundamental differences in play style going on. I mean, after all, if what you say were the key thing, I could just bonus the AI with more resources and call i
Are you only using stock units?
At this point in the game, yes. As the game goes on, I change the weapons/armor to reflect what I've researched. My last random game, I tried messing around with traits a bit (stacked every +init boost I could find, and combined that with "Frozen Bones" to attack cities easily), but it's hard to know whether I'm being effective with that or not. <
I really didnt have the problems your describe! First, the first quest hut on the map gives you another unit (I would recommend taking an archer), when I played it there were also some Panca archers around. Especially with those, the Syndicate becomes very beatable. If you settle the 2 2 essence spots, you can, by snaking a bit, actually add in a 3rd 5/3 city on the river between them. <b

12 Replies 15,186 Views

Seriously, who thought this was OK? There's two spots where you can settle; one of them gets you swarmed by hostile randoms that you have no chance of being able to beat early, so already there's a 50/50 chance of a forced restart if you don't have prior knowledge of the map. Then, if you take the other, you're stuck to 1 city forever and can't do shit. There's literally nothing to do; there's no way to take down that Yithril camp

When waging war in the midgame, how should I go about taking cities? I frequently find myself in a situation where I've got a big army advantage, but can't really get anywhere between the "nine units in cities vs. seven in my mobile stacks" thing plus the city militia joining in the fun. I usually have to live with capturing a city or two that's left unguarded, but even that can get painful sometimes, especially if there's a bunch of forest tiles in my way.
