Can you do weak quests on Ridiculous and Insane with your starting militia and spearmen? Can you clear lairs of 2 spiders, pack of wolves etc early game? No you can't, unlike AI. Catapult would be fine as it is IF: 50% armor pen (makes no sense for a dude in plate armor to ignore a freaking huge rock thrown at him when it would squash him like a tin can in reality). Do listed damage per unit in group. This will make catapults good vs groups of units (which is the main purpose of bringing such a siege weapon since there are no walls in cities etc, nor can you bombard a city from outside to reduce defenders or population or w
So ummm it's hard to cast Xp spells instead of rising volcanoes and whatever else? If you play a large of huge map and expand continuously and make enough conclaves, and build all the mana / turn increasing stuff, you will never have a problem getting that hero (or heroes) to whatever level you want, it's just a matter of time. Nobody said you have to get to level 30 by turn 100 or game is broken. Heck all my games (where I disable all VC except conquest for obvious reasons, since the
There is no such thing as stack of doom. Take any unit and design it with all the best armor / weapons / traits / equipment, max size. Then put that unit to face my Assassin for example. A level 15 Assassin vs a level 15 Stack of doom. Do you even have any doubts who would win? All your stack can do is move and use 1 (or 2 depending on race) skills. While my Sin will have a full array of skills, items, spells and will be pimped gear wise as well. Can you reach 60 dodge without buffs on your s
I have yet to encounter your bug, my ships sail where I tell them to and they carry any troops I give them. Then again I'm not your typical Kingdom leader, soft and kind, so my ships would think twice before refusing to embark or transport my troops hehe :)
Be warned that the conquered city will stay in strike (100% unrest) for several turns, and also increase (more than noticeable) the unrest in all your other cities. So if you're on the verge to discover a key technology that you really need fast, it may be better to raze it and rebuild :)
In all seriousness you have spells to "help" your lower level heroes / troops catch up. And they can be cast over and over again. The choice is yours, do I cast a Volcano or do I give some free levels to all my troops or heroes?
It makes no sense for a spellcaster to wear chainmail or plate. Assassins have the option to wear chainmail. Warriors wear chainmail too (not sure about plate have yet to play a warrior hero), Defenders have it all - again unsure about Commanders. The reason the trees are designed as they are, is so that you can plan ahead. Decide what type of armor you want and spec accordingly, knowing that you will have access to that type as soon as you research weaponry or magic trees. It
I did pick air because my spellcaster has only life magic. Air provides my sovereign with great in-combat mobility (can teleport instantly out of a bad spot, or teleport into enemies dealing lightning damage - it also crits depending on my crit chance). Also gives me good anti range defense (guardian wind if am not mistaken), and HASTE. Haste is vital for assassins. You need to move fast, and often, you're not a tank rushing in to hit their frontline then get swarmed and get hit once and
I really don't agree with all you say. You can't connect 2 cities most of the times because of the distance / objects on map between them (not even mentioning rivers which don't allow you to build on the other side even if you make a dock and they do push a bit on the other side). There will always be scattered resources in different directions. With snaking you can grab one, maybe 2 if they are really close. Rest you need outposts. I a

I want you to show me, in detailed mathematical terms, how it's possible that splitting XP amongst your heroes is preventing you from using them at all. Well, you're just doing what you condemn. Anyway, I've looked hard in the data file, but heroes progression is hard coded. So I
[quote who="fenwe" reply="158" id="3354589"] Quoting Azunai_, reply 154 if you don't want to use heroes, that's your choice. Actually, no, it isn't my choice. I don't play games to butt my head into a wall. The way all the math works out, you are always better running a single hero and troops. The single hero and troops will out level and significantly out perform a dual hero set with troops. You aren't even arguing that point. What you a
The number of cities you will create (or keep) during a game, varies greatly on several factors: Do you NEED a city there to block an enemy access & grab some important resources? (may imply you are willing to settle even on bad spots with no essence or low food / production) Do you have a good spot for each type of city you need? (a high production city - fortress - near a forest and with some clay, preferable with at least 2 essences, a town with loads of food anything w
Am not really sure peeps will keep using spears if they will get a penalty from being next to target. That pretty much makes them worst swarmers and I'd suppose the penalty would be negated by a full swarm bonus (full surround of attacked unit) so you end up doing normal damage no matter what you do. Personally I never bring more than 1 spear unit (and that only precisely for the impale ability) I never use them as a frontline fighter, always preferring maces / axes / swords for t
Is really not as bad as you make it sound. You wouldn't want to get high level with the early game troops or mid game since you don't have access to all the magic enhancements (mounts included), nor the bonuses from well built fortresses (including city buffs and buildings that affect units defense, accuracy, hp, initiative etc). When gaining levels they get a bit of hp, spell resist and accuracy. You can only upgrade their armor / weapons and group numbers, so you will miss on everyt
Yep. Mages specifically get another 25% bonus xp since they are more reliant on their spells (be it to deal damage, summon durable minions, debuff / buff and control). That does not mean other hero types can't get xp. IMHO is even faster since is easier to get better melee weapons and armor so you can deal damage and kill stuff and survive, and you're not so much reliant on troops (or minions) as a mage is. For example in my current playthrough, huge map, ridiculous di
Update: The crash only occurs during end of turn (as soon as you press enter). Hope this helps. So is not related to any specific player action. I am not a Windows 7 expert, so I have no idea what the problem might be, but I am inclined to believe it's related to LH and huge maps with 10 players, as I never had a single blue screen from other games. If it helps I can upload crash reports?
Well, every sovereign can make a great spellcaster, but if you don't have summoner trait is not as good to specialize in those (sure can grab one or two for utility / big hits absorb like you know that ogre / troll is going to use his 1 shot mace skill and you bait it with the summon), the problem is making them a different class but still having good magic access (since is world of Elemental). Playing Tarth on ridiculous now, made it to half of faction power list i

So if I have a strong lair next to my city (because it was only tile with some essence on it), I should be restricted from building stuff to not release the creatures and lose the city? No, CTRL+N to get a better start is cheating in my eyes (you don't like the spot you been assigned to, by all means move around and find a better one, don't restart until you get PERFECT spot). Why shouldn't you have any decision making on where you build a specific building or which direct
So you're going Assassin path on sovereign too? :)
This is becoming a nuisance. I can play any other map smaller than huge (be it LH maps or randomized ones) for hours and hours and I have no problems. As soon as I go for a huge map, after 2-3 hours the game will crash with a blue screen. Windows 7 all updates, all video drivers up to date, no overclocking on cpu or gpu, no overheating on either (am barely peaking 60 Celsius when playing on both video card and cpu cores). Never experienced blue screens with any other games (mu
As long as you can avoid getting DoW from an AI you shouldn't have much problems advancing and expanding :)
