...really? Cuz I was bein' a brat. [e digicons]^_^[/e]
Ha! I just needed to vent a little bit, that's all. To me it's infuriating that the (I shall not use their names) Duo abandoned the fanbase while telling us sugarcoated lies about how they would "love to" make a sequel "but reasons" for years and years. And now? After decades and someone else standing up to the task and delivering us a ne
I think everybody in this conversation needs to stop holding back and tell us how they really feel.
This is actually sound advice (except for people with a stake in this, better to let lawyers deal with it). And honestly, I've read both sides of the argument. Not being a legal expert, I can't tell with 100% certanity who's right but as a layman it seems to me that Stardock is in the right.
Let us know in the comments what cool purposes you could imagine alien creatures having on gameplay that you think would be fun and interesting.
Man oh man, there's so much you could do. Back in... 2013 I believe(?) I tossed out a template for random races. You probably don't remember. Or maybe you do. In any case, stuff like that could be utilized for local wildlife as well. Give them some depth beyond "here's stats on

As most race examples I’ve made rely on the more serious tone, I figured that something a bit more lightweight and comical could be refreshing. These guys were inspired by Stan from Monkey Island series (1, 2 & especially 3 – never played the rest) and I imagine them acting in quite similar manner, just add some speed to the speech. To seal the deal, here’s the last of my trader trio. Xa’Nuth Core lor

I think my descriptions are getting better. If any of this stuff is usable anywhere, I guess it's better that there's no attempt to give too detailed lore about the aliens as it'd possibly 1) spoil any plot elements and 2) probably wouldn't fit the game lore anyway. Nuff said, here's the second traders in series. Gimathios Core lore: The Gimathios are a race of superb crafters. They’re primarily focused on genet

Man, I'm really feeling creative (and overhyped, it'll wear off I know). I decided to scrap the random number chart info as I'm getting more and more liberal in my interpretation of their actual meaning. It's still a handy tool, even though I say so myself and really gives some fun ideas to play around with. Though the original set is a bit too focused on hostile/grim/evil sort of elements. Everybody's spying or backstabbing or xenophobic or whatnot. I wanted to cr

Combat is certainly one of the core elements of Star Control. Initially I had mixed feelings about top-down vs full 3D but I’m starting to lean towards the idea that top-down combat would probably be more fitting even though modern tech certainly allows for gorgeous 3D fights. 3D battles Homeworld-style naturally award the feeling of grand scale but as we lack any knowledge about the mood and theme of the coming game, it’s not necessarily necessary at all. Will the game be

Sometimes dreams come true. I know I dreamed for a new SC for twenty years or so and it's really going to happen! Oh, I added some extra features to my original chart, the special element 6 means shapeshifters, but I scrapped it as well as I was happy with what I had written before I got to that part. Twist originally meant some dramatic plot element tied to the race but it's seemingly evolving into some kind of additional personality description. Doesn't bother me, so far

Here's another funky concept I put together using the same method as in previous. I don't use the core elements too rigidly but more like a guideline on the basic nature of the race in creation. In this example, honor-code kind of doesn't fit with double agent backstabbing behavior. It could've been workable by making the honor system so un-human like so the aliens would eventually do things that would hurt the player but I just scrapped it altogether. Honor code turned into a

Good to hear, thanks for info! I bet I'm not alone when I say that as I've been waiting for a new Star Control over 20 years a few months (or years) here or there won't make much of a difference. I recall there was some mention that you people aren't even planning on giving out a release date before 2015. Good things are worth waiting for.

So I decided to roll my own roulette and see if I could make anything worthwhile out of it. Originally I wanted to roll three mercantile races that'd form a core for my idea of a trade circle but it turned out a bit different as the first one got totally malevolent. Any names are basically just placeholders. I smashed my keyboard around and scrapped 75% of ultra crappy names and saved the least sucky. They're still sucky, though. If people at Stardock find anything worthwhile

So what we know so far about the basic game idea is that it's an alternative timeline and the core of the game is to fly around in space to meet funky aliens and upgrade your flagship as you go, like in SC2. With this basic setting in mind, here's some thoughts. Scrap, ridicule, alter or pick the cherries as you see fit. 1. Good cool story Well I went through this pretty much in the story thread already so I won't delve deep

Oh, I nearly forgot. In addition to the actual story, I feel that the presentation of it is equally important. What I mean is how the plot unfolds and how the various story-related events and revelations are shown. I’m talking about the camera usage in cutscenes, how music is handled to add drama etc. Baldur’s Gate was good with it’s mysterious beginning. You’re hunted, but have no clue as to why, acquiring clues bit by bit along the way. Final Fantasy

Yes oh yes. Please do put a good effort into the universe, lore and most of all, the actual plot. I’m really looking forward for a story which is meaningful, realistic and immersive. I’m hoping for well written characters and races, exciting plot twists, tough decisions along the way and above it all – an ending that leaves you with a tear in your eye and a longing for more. What little we know of the reboot, the story so far: It’s an alternate universe.

While not having complete racial descriptions made up, I feel like sharing this simple tool I made today on the fly while toying around some ideas. This is just a crude example and can be greatly improved upon by simply adding more traits and/or new definition trees. What we're having here is a sort of random generator for a race that gives you certain core blocks that define the species. These core blocks can be fleshed out to create a proper space race. Here goes, Ddudey's Random Ra
