I'm unsure about the whole pioneers costing population thing. I believe that going wide (many small cities) is simply a better strategy than going wide (few larger cities). City level upgrades dont' fully compensate for this. As a result in the future I will be watching my population and as soon as I hit the threshold, I will built pioneers. Constantly checking my population to see whether I can built pioneers just doesn't seem like a lot of fun... I would like to

Can you please re-balance the Paragon spell? It is insanely powerful. In spite of the AI research bug which gives the AI crazy amounts of research I can still beat Insane difficulty because of Paragon. Why would I ever cast Destinys Gift when I can cast Paragon? In the previous patch DG mana cost was increased, but Paragon is much more potent anyway...
About the "Destroy Land" spell. I don't see it in my spellbook, not even with an earth archmage. Is it somewhere in the gamefiles but currently disabled?
Here's my list: Note that i have seen that all issues except #5 have already been reported by others as well. The research bug. Computer players get crazy amounts of research. Perhaps already fixed in 1.20? Bugs in the scoreboard. The score of (mostely one) of my AI opponents often seems to jump up and down by inexplicably large margins. Pathfinding in neighborhood of rivers and roads sometimes takes the wrong
I'm answering my own question here but it may be useful for others: The default max army size at the beginning of the game is 4 units. With certain techs you can increase the max army size. I probably did not realize that I researched such a tech. The swimming armies is just a very bad implementation of the max 4 units per square rule, so not necessarily a bug.
I think that the game names the group after its strongest member. For every unit it calculates an army strength number that will also be used in the faction army strength calculations. The specifics of how the number is determined I don't know though. It certainly involves much more than just unit level.
I have played the game for a crazy amount of hours but still don't understand how it works. Many times I move 2 groups of 4 or less units into the same square and they are automatically merged into one large army. At other times the end result willl be 2 separate armies on the same square. The latter also occasionaly happens when I board a ship, when I effectively get a boat and a swimming army. The last surely is a bug. I'm playing 1.12 Anthys (DLC) map on Insane diffic
