i noticed this aswell (version 1.1 and older) it's facepalmworthy when i see magic oriented sovereigns like ceresa or procipine with path of the assassin. just why? personally i like to decide based on lore and personality of the heroes. i dont expect the ai to do that but please make it not pick assassin, everytime.

before starting the game on the opponent selection screen you can edit each individual ai player. under personality tab you can give the ai extra ability points. chalanging gives 0% extra and tough 50% extra by default. however even if you set it to 0% extra points and assign abilities for the ai yourself the choose extra ones. unless of course my espionage tab lies to me. so what i do is simply assign a political party i think fits the race and reset the ability points. that way the
i did some testing by spying within the first 5-10 turns on the AI (foreign relation, stats tab) to find out about what abilities they tend to choose and whatnot. i made a shocking discovery. when everything is default (fresh install, no civ has been edited) and you start the game the AI will pick random abilities. so far so good. if you then restart the game as another civ and make the AI the civ you have been playing earlier (with ability points spend of course) they a
