Am I missing something or it is not possible to deploy army manually? That auto-deployment on tactical maps is driving me crazy.

Precisely. It seems to happen only in siege and on SOME battlefield (one ancient temple, facing stone golems, as I remembered)

More details/shameless self-bump: Quite sure it definitely is a bug: it can be circumvented by removing 1 group of units from army - sovereign appears in manual siege. With that unit in the army, sovereign does not appear in manual battle, and displayed as defeated in the summary page.

Got this problem since 0.92. Observed when sovereign leads a maxed out army. Presumably, it is because of the bug fix that some hero will get spawned in unapproachable areas. In this case, sovereign just do not get spawned at all.
