I am running 1.2 and with empire I do not get access to the advanced weapons even though I research them. Is this a known issue with 1.2?

I went ahead and trained up the cooperation tree the other day and go the demons. They were super powerful and became my only unit in the game. I was able to use their special ability on each turn in combat and wipe out entire armies without ever having to move my demons. Today I started a new game but this time the demons can only use that ability once during a battle. Is this normal? Is there something that allows them to use their ability on each turn during a battle?

Yes. It seems like the spells that are available to learn are a little random. In some games I have access to them and in others I dont.

I am new to the game. I have played several games so far on patch 1.2. When I get shrines other than fire along with their spell books I never get the chance to train the spells. So far Air, and water, have not given me the option to train anything. Also the only fire spells I have been able to get are fireball and fire lance even though I have leveled up my spell knowledge level.
