I hear what your saying but DC doesn't do anything. For example if I traded weapons or armor for things the computer could uses those. Diplomatic capital doesn't do anything.
It allows you to trade for stuff.. its meant for.. trading. IT does do something.. it allows you to get stuff from other people without spending gold or resources. That being said.. as i said before i just wish it A.wasn't so abundant and B. was Specific betwee
I love diplomatic capital as a concept. I just wish it wasn't acquired as much by buildings but rather by deeds and was faction specific. IE give them 100 gildar worth of resources for 50 gildar and you get 50 gildar worth of diplomatic capital that is specifically for them. marriages would give diplomatic capital to both sides etc. Maybe keep embassies that build small amounts but only for the nation its built for. IE Embassy of Umber only gives capital for umber. My 2

Welcome dave. I gotta say though.. The Blair Witch project a novel.. [e digicons][/e]
To many TBS fans Shafer is a pariah.. and is now going to be associated with not only civ V but elemental [e digicons][/e] I will certainly say that those who like me were disappointed in Civ V are alot less likely to buy elemental now that his name is added to the roster of people. Lucky for stardock I already own it.
I buy elemental to get away from the crap that is Civ V only to have the lead designer of that crapfest work on elemental. Atleast we know elemental wont require steam [e digicons]O:)[/e] To Frogboy: I personally moved from civ5 to Elemental, even with the bad release reports, because of the design decisions among other things. To me he is one of many who destroyed civ .. and now he comes here [e digicons]#:([/e] &nbs
Well, I've got to get out of lurk-mode to link to this: http://news.bigdownload.com/2011/01/04/exclusive-civilization-vs-lead-designer-hired-by-stardock/ So yup, we got Shafer. I, for one, am very pleased.
Oh GD it.. If he gets to ruin them both i'm done with TBS. CiV is terrible so i buy elemental and he comes here.. wtf...
No views? *bump*
TBH this sounds like a hardware issue to me. Make sure all your hardware is properly connected(IE ram is fully in the mobo etc) and monitor your temps while you play(not just video card but CPU as well). Post any crash dumps IF you have any. Overheating could cause this.. so try cleaning out the innards of your PC. Remove the layer of dust(cat hair is terrible.. i have cats and have to do this atleast
Takes forever to research stuff unless I dump tons of studies and arcane labs into my cities, and tons of housing, and so I end up hitting the tile limit constantly and haven't been able to build anything cool. Maybe I'm missing some sort of key gameplay point, but if so, it's not obvious to me.
The ability to specialize cities means there needs to be a reason to specialize. Far as housing is concerned.. seems to me your ignoring the civics
"That being said, all expectations and sequels and such aside, Elemental has come a long way since 1.0 and as of 1.1 I'd put it in the same ballpark as Civ5." With all credit to Stardock and Elemental with the speed at which this ship is turning, to me stating that Elemental and CivV are in the same ballpark quality-wise seems like a pretty damn big insult to the guys at Firaxis. I won't write more because statements like that make
I can't speak for most of the games on toms list. However I do agree with his number 1. I don't agree with elemental being number 2 but thats probably because its hard to be disappointed when you come into a game with rather low expectations. Remember the list is of most disappointing games.. not "worst games" or w.e. So its even more subjective than a best or worst list.
1.1 is miles above older versions in gameplay/funfactor. However there are still crashing issues for some. Unfortunately there's no way to tell if you'll be in the "I rarely or never crash" group or the " i crash every game" group. So buy it if your willing to live with possibly having to reload your saves every hour or so.
There's just too many other great games and online digital store fonts, and to be honest, they deliver where's Impulse and Stardock have not.
LOL they all have different distribution schemes. If your one of the people who don't care which scheme they use then have fun. I, like some others, don't like the issues and restrictions put on by most of the others. Its all user preference though.. and i prefer to use impulse over most
I have had the /3gb switch on for the majority of my games. Since i've never seen it cause stability issues with any of the games I played i haven't thought much of it. However.. this of course could be causing issues So i'll make it point to have it off from now on when playing elemental. In short any Dump files you see after this post will be without the 3gb switch active. I've lost immediate interest in elemental as of now due to crashing so much
This is Fixed Turns out its a mixture of new drivers and my particular system settings. Long story short the New drivers dont like the /3gb switch so I just use the non /3gb switch option on the boot menu. It will load the drivers but refuses to load OTF fonts when the /3gb switch is active and.. it doesnt matter if I have the /userva set to 2600 or 2100 i still get the font issue. Why is this? Don't know.. but i can speculate the driver update cha
The first one is not about the game... The "search" button in the forum window does nothing... (https://forums.elementalgame.com/forum/877) ; I'm using firefox 3.6.3.. So, I'm sorry if I repeat something that is often told... While I told some of these myself some months ago already, but was obviously not heard.
Works for me. I too use firefox.. maybe you need to Allow all this page in no script... [e digicons]:D[/e]
Th
the AI needs to play to win, and nothing else. "AI personality" should never replace that; it should at most influence the direction the AI will take to win. I mean, it's nice and all to have the world feel like it's living and that you're confronting other leaders with personalities and stuff, but it's first and foremost a game and it need challenge. And enemies which will create that challenge.
<p
One more to add.. brand spankin new drivers from ATI(which btw from what i can tell didn't actually update the drivers for my actual card and caused all my fonts in elemental to be crappy tacoma or something.. see my other thread if you got a solution to that) so I hoped that would fix the issue, and against my better judgement started a game when i should be well asleep. Lasted ~1hr before crash.. tends to be my average..sometimes less so
So due to crashing issues figured i'd check out if any new drivers were up. Turns out the new CCC was released the 13th so yay update them. Start elemental.. everything uses tahoma font now.. wtf. Ya its a minor annoyance but if anyone knows how to go back to the default elemental fonts OTHER than reinstalling let me know.
I have not had a crash since the game was released..... not a single one... must be your rigs
Naw your rig must be the super bug killer 3000 from the future. Cause those of us with modern rigs still have crash issues.
SO hwo do we tell for thso eo fus who forgot when we buy the game if we get the free xpacks ?
They use the day you first updated via impulse.
Exactly. It could be that the demographic that happens to have certain hardware/software configs also just rants on the forums instead of reporting it to Stardock if something goes wrong.
Naw i posted all my crash dumps(and continue to do so).. its pretty unstable on my system as well. So its not an issue with just people who didn't beta test/ report issues. Although something like that may compound the issue.</
