It's been awhile but as I remember I unloaded my forces at beach up north. Wall blocked me but I advanced and was told I had beating what ever was stopping me. Turned south and..................then it's over. I didn't take any forces by land and still was able to finish the campaign. Hope that some help.

Back then, there were no forums to go to. Played on a Commadore 64. You were on your own, and the manual HAD to have everything in it. I remember if you were lucky you could call an very expensive phone # to get some insight. And that was costing you "by the minute". so talk fast.[e digicons]:grin:[/e] Now, forums act as a large part of figuring how things work, or don't work.
Actually I found East India Company (fully patched of course) to have very long and engagaing battles. Well, as long as there aren't islands involved, AI ships tend to run into them and sink. I have Privateer also, you can have more sea battles in this version as you play as a pirate. Another one, but might be hard to find is Pirates of the Caribbean (2002 I believe, it was released along with the first movie) patched with the "Build 14" or maybe higher now. DL it
As I remember, the cloth map is your friend in this. It shows the beach where you land your ship. I did not send any troops by land and still finished the camaign.

I played through this part last night without a problem. I know sometimes my forces wouldn't move until I moved other units with unused movement points. I had to find that unit myself ( once I left my ship on auto-explore and it was stuck against a land mass) and move it then my forces would move again. My city had not overtaken Markinns city. Anyway, I finally finished the campaign. Using the 1.06 download
