For all those who have not played yet - get a couple of games under your belt then post your thoughts in the FE beta forums. For those of you not in the beta be aware that it is shaping up to be a great game buts going to be a while before its finished.
I'm not a fan of two production ques - it just adds much more management to the game for to little gain and even takes some strategy out of the game. In fact my biggest complaint with gal civ 2 (and the reason i stopped playing) is that its optimal to build a shipyard in almost every planet and have them pump out ships to build starports everywhere - managing this on large maps is just horrible.
"cities as event-producers or quest-producers or champion-attractors. Ie, having a city with an adventurer's inn gives a chance of random quests and champions appearing" - I really like this idea in general and would love for it to be added regardless of what else is done with the city system.
Just played around with it. Am not a fan. It seems to jerk you out of your normal play experience to much, almost like a cut scene every time you want to build. I have no problem with the option being included though especially if we manage to make building placement mean something.
Great post but i disagree with 2. To many things to constantly manage can get annoying fast.
I agree with ZehDon and would like to see the building placement stay but with something added to it to make it worthwhile. The buildings themselves really look nice and placing them is quite fun until you realise that it doesn't make any difference. Another suggestion to stop snake cities (or at least make them a choice not a necessity) would be to increase the maintenance cost of cites that have too large an area per building (by this i mean the overall area
I agree with you wholeheartedly on the improved UI. Its one of those subtle changes that i just didn't notice so good work to stardock on that one. The three points you bring up are also right on the mark and would make the game a much better experience if they were implemented.
Disclaimer : I bought E:WOM the same year i bought Civ 5 and was bitterly disappointed by both. The negatives of Elemental have already been adressed by other people and i won't reiterate them here but the one positive that i did take out of the game was that the engine was perfect for what the game was trying to do. It had both great art style and fantastic usability for scrolling in and out of locations. Two years later and Stardock have hired talent in all the right
