Alright, I am definitely getting out of memory crashes, even with the 1.01 version. This usually happens around turn 175. Not at home so I can't post my log.
The problem is that there are no early game decent defensive units that are tough city defenders. In Civ there are archers, which are a hard-counter to an early game rush.
Hrm, I don't think that is really the case. My air elemental was hitting for 53 damage which is far more damage than any early units. My group of three elementals was pretty unstoppable. On the flip side, I did run into an AI that had an e

As a small note, the version that we are playing right now is not the release version per se. The Day0 patch should arrive tomorrow and only Stardock knows what the patch will fix or add.
Actually just use the master of magic platform and make it multiplayer! Don't even change the mechanics! Just a graphics overhaul...BOOM massive great game with a huge customer base. Don't put any "programmer expression" into it. Make the cities, units, and spells work EXACTLY the same!
Stardock would get sued for Copyright infringement.
Civ 5 can go to hell if anything elemental is way better, so freaking over Civ4's city spam.
I've found that AI's in Elemental sorta city spam. I went from having two large cities to six cities after fighting a single AI. If I were to fight another, that would be ten cities which puts it in the realm Civ4 on a huge map.
I think a good thing is to learn why an AI declares war on you. Assuming the AI logic isn't completely random, the system is probably checking your army levels compared to the size of your population. If you spend considerable resources building units early on, the AI should be less likely to attack you. For me, I focused on magic during my first real game. I had an anemic army so a "friendly" AI decided to attack me. My summoned elementals were easily able to
In non-campaign games, you need to click on the resource surrounding your city that looks like a fertile field. There should be an option to build a farm there. To put it another way, you don't build farms from a city's build menu.
I am using Vista 64x and was able to play for several hours without a crash. That includes tactical battles. I did experience considerable slowdown after two hours, though. My CPU usage was pretty low. Perhaps it was a memory leak.
First of all, I want to thank Stardock for working very hard on getting the pre-release version out to everyone. As a game developer myself, I understand how presenting your product to the general public is both exhilarating and terrifying. Second, note that I did not play the Beta version of the game; this is a genuine initial commercial response. 1. I created a unique sovereign based upon my general playstyle for 4X games. I am going camping. But there is a burn ban. So I can't make a fire. Which means camping is pointless. But I have to go anyways. Bleh.
From: https://forums.elementalgame.com/374531 How do I get divorced? Your Sovereign can get "divorced" by sending the spouse, without any equipment or bodyguards, to the nearest and strongest monster or enemy army available. Seriously. How do I get married a second/third/fourth... time or stablish my own harem? In a mod, if anyone makes one about it.
So my question stands, where is the balance? It might be there, none of us know, none of us are playing the version Brad is, which is why I'd like his opinion. I went through this with GalCiv2, it's not as though there isn't precedent for me with the game not quite being where I want it to be balance wise upon release, or even a fair bit after. I had better hopes for Elemental, but frankly, I've not seen much to bolster
Doesn't the Steam version come with a Civ? At least they're not at Dragon Age complexity levels yet. That had so many different freebees from so many different vendors that it required a chart to sort it out.
Actually I don't think Activision or any Game publisher cares about doing these incentives. It's a gimick for the retailers. It's not about getting more people to buy your game, but rather getting more people to buy it at a given retailer. I mean lets face it, none of those items on the CIV pre-order would 'make' me stop and go, OMG I want to buy CIV V. I'm either interested or not in the game itself, but what it would do is m

Since everybody else is doing it, nobody (of the large games anyways) dare sell without it seems.
Publicly companies would not be doing this if they were not earning a profit off of it.
Bonuses are lame. Everyone who pays full price later and doesnt get them, will feel cheated. Not a great way to treat gamers.
For most companies, you are not a "gamer." You are a consumer. A number. Realize that publicly traded companies, like 2K and Activision, have a fiduciary duty to their shareholders to maximize profits. Most game companies don't care if you feel cheated by pre-order bonuses since it will
