Ok, newb to modding here, how can I make these models? because I wish to make my own weapon models.

Ok, I'm planning on working on a modification at the moment, and right now I've started on buildings (and that seems to work well), but I wanted to know how to make completely new weapons from scratch, eg if I say wanted to make a completely new sword that looks different to all the current ones, how would I go about doing that?
