Spells gained through research can be cast by any type of champion. This just doesn't seem right. My defender champion with lots of strength and constitution but low intelligence should not be able to cast at all. Instead, it would be a lot more satisfying if each path had distinctive skills. I know you are in the process of fleshing this out. It will be really great when the defender has massive zone of control and damage soak, the warrior can attack multiple enemies (maybe even speciali

Derek, I'd love it if you could make a cosmetic change: Normal FE mouse cursor when in the game menu. Going to the game menu from in-game preserves whatever pointer you had at the time, and it looks ugly and is difficult to navigate the menu with a crossed-swords mouse pointer, for example. Cheers!

Sweet! Just got home from work and there's the update! WOOT! I assume XP should be fixed now (it wasn't giving you XP for all the opponents, but rather only for the most powerful one).
I think battles in general are generating a lot less XP than they used to. Sure I'll run into a huge monster that gives 100+ exp .. but in 0.77 that would have granted me 200 exp easy.
Frogboy mentioned in another post that the exp is jacked and will be fixed in .86 Apparently, it's only giving you the exp for the highest-value opponent in the group, which is why you only get, say, 1 xp for killing 3 wolves, for e

This is a relic from E:WOM, and one that just really looks bad. Please change the mouse cursor when going to the main menu from in game. Retaining the crossed-swords pointer or text-bubble pointer inside the menu is hard to use to point with and just feels clunky. You guys are doing great with FE and I'm really enjoying myself. Little details like this will give the game a more overall polished feel. Cheers!

Easy solution: make a"trade gods"type option for when the build queue is empty. While we're at it, how about housing as well? These mechanics always work well in 4x games. That way you can make more gold and not waste with an empty queue.

Loving .85 so far! Nice work boys and girls, and keep it up! PLEASE either remove spells that will never be used, or make them scalable so that they will still have a use later on (if they ever did!). An advantage of this is you don't have to make a higher level version of the same spell. Examples: Courage : This spell is useless! Even at first level would I not bother. +3 HP and Spell resist (+1 per life shard?!). That is just

As the subject implies, I just researched recruiting, but the tile with the champion is still giving me that message and is unclickable. Here's a save game with my sovereign next to the tile in question: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8947534/Cant%20Recruit%20Lev%205%20w%20Recruiting.EleSav

Range Penalties Archers lose damage and accuracy the farther away they are. Opponents without ranged attacks should attempt to get as far out of range as they can to alleviate damage. Ammo Limit? Something to consider. Retreat! Can't unit's flee anymore? If there's nothing to be done about a hail of arrows, why don't they attempt to run away?
On the champions: I think if you're taking this route, two things need to be done eventually 1) There needs to be a use no magic in auto-resolve option for AI and human. Right now this is a big annoyance early game. I'm pretty sure this is coming though. 2) I think the champions themselves will have to be balanced and diversified in regards to magic. Right now very few champions lack

There's a little button on the top right of the map on a little floating menu (where it tells you the terrain type); click the button there in order to be able to see the actual grain and materials rating of the land around you
Quoting seanw3, reply 29Magic section 2 There will almost certainly be more magic put in the meager books we currently have. Were you suggesting that all spells should be researched? That would reward researchers with too many spells compared to warfare and Magic Tree purists. Adding maybe 50 new spells to the tree by release is a must in my book. There are so many unrealized spellbooks to be made. Exactly.

Frogboy, Derek, PLEASE read the OP as well as seanw3's post in the same thread on Endgame. These truly are the elements that will make FE an instant classic. From the conversations scattered across this forum, this really is the essence of it. So much of these seems implementable within the excellent framework that you have designed. PLEASE! For honor; for glory; for the simple damn fun of it! I am at this moment giddy with anticipation for the future of this game thanks to these
Instead of splitting hp between every unit in a squad so even a scratch reduces their dmg, squads should have to lose %35-50 of their health before they start to lose members.
+1 That would be an easy and effective fix.
Quoting scifi1950, reply 10Maybe the champions could have bonuses that only buff the non-Champion units they are stacked with? Yep, perhaps the sovereign and every champion should get one talent (+ 5 attack if only one hero is in the party, + 5 defense if only one hero is in the party, + 2 initiative if only one hero is in the party or + 2 move if only one hero is in the party) for free.
<p

Ahh, thanks. I missed that post. Indeed, I had not seen a random event either in my two games played so far. Cheers!

Absolutely agree. Make the initial champions recruitable the more generic, randomly-rolled ones. The ones that unlock via research need to be more unique, with abilities/traits tied to their backstories. The higher the tech research, the more heroic and bad-ass. Also, make the champions who are holed-up waiting for a tech unlock scale to the average level of the sovereigns/champions already in play , or, level them based on an equation

When it comes time to put the final passes of icing on this already delicious-looking cake, it would be nice to have random events occur. This would also boost the significance of choosing the "lucky" trait in sovereign design. Random events really boost the replayability of a 4x game for me.
I like the guild idea, its well thought out, detailed and different from other ideas presented. I agree with the other posters that city building as it is needs to be improved. Now I can afford to build everything for every city and every city looks alike. In the LOTR and SW movies each city had a unique look. Perhaps a city could build improvements linked to Earth OR Fire OR Water or AIR... A s
Quoting Frogboy, reply 36 Certainly feel free to discuss what you don't like about it. Alright then. First off, I agree with you on improvement placement. It just leads to a lot of weirdness, snaking being the worst offender. Personally I would like to see one-tile cities or one-tile-per-level cities with building handled in the city management screen. But that being a bit of a long shot, I'd settle for so
